Megan Knight On Love, Lyrics, And The Magic Of “Drawn To You”
For her brilliant new single “Drawn To You,” singer-songwriter Megan Knight explores the themes of love at first sight, crafting the perfect Valentine’s Day song. Read our exclusive interview below.
1 — As an artist, do you find that crafting lyrics comes fairly naturally to you?
Definitely. I never knew exactly how to explain the spiritual experience that I feel when I write but I recently saw an interview of Jack White that summed up that feeling pretty well. He explained it as ‘an antenna’ while creating music; tapping into the source. Writing feels much like an out-of-body experience for me; it’s as if I’m just the vessel catching this information from some other place.
2 — Did you draw inspiration from any other songs while writing “Drawn To You”?
I honestly drew inspiration from a couple of my previous singles ‘Dancing in the Mirror’ and ‘Good Luck.’ I loved how those tracks were filled with positivity and I loved how they make the listener feel. I really wanted to make that happen again.
3 — What role do you think intuition plays in love at first sight?
I think intuition is absolutely everything. I live practically my whole life based on gut feelings. I believe that life always eventually brings you to where you need to be and who you need to be with all within divine timing.
4 — How do you think falling in love, at first sight, differs from developing a deeper connection with someone over time?
I honestly think “falling in love at first sight” is more of a figure of speech than the actual literal matter. For me this is what ‘falling in love at first sight’ … how it all works out looks to me- I think your soul can instantly be drawn to someone and you can instantly feel magnetically pulled to someone. You should listen to your instincts and begin developing a connection with them, the instinct is usually right and you often do wind up eventually falling in love and having this deep beautiful connection. Therefore, your first-sight instinct was correct and it did eventually blossom into love, but I don’t think you can actually just instantly fall in love through the eyes and not the soul.
5 — Do love songs tend to resonate more with audiences compared to sad songs?
I don’t think love songs or sad songs resonate any more or less than one another. I think it’s very dependent on the individual and where they’re at in life at the present moment. Life is such a journey of ups and downs. There are so many times in life when I need an uplifting positive song and there are also probably just as many where I want to sulk and feel deep intense emotional feelings where I want to listen to sad ones.
6 — What do you think makes “Drawn To You” appropriate for Valentine’s Day?
I think ‘Drawn to You’ is the perfect Valentine’s Day song because of the fact that it’s your classic Pop-Country love anthem that sums up the feeling of that magnetic attraction that’s almost unexplainable. It’s a feel-good love song.
7 — What do you hope people feel or experience when listening to “Drawn To You”?
I hope people feel the excitement and purely good vibes. I hope it’s a song they’re able to throw on in the car or having dinner with their loved ones and that it’s heartwarming.
8 — Is there a specific city, venue, or event where you envision performing this song live?
I totally see myself performing this song at The Tidal and Barefoot Country Music Festivals, Whiskey Jam, and the CMA’s. I have no idea who books any of that or how to get there but I can definitely picture it and I want to make that happen.
9 — If you were to dedicate “Drawn To You” to someone, who would it be and why?
I dedicate this song to all the lovers who found their soulmate in that almost spiritual way. It’s a beautiful experience and it tends to be a rare one.
10 — What are your plans for the near horizon, specifically for this year?
I plan on releasing a bunch of singles throughout the year leading up to a full album release by the end of 2024. I will be touring throughout the entire year as well, you can find dates on meganknightmusic.com. I’d love to see you!
