Netherlands Techno
In today’s day and age, electronic dance music is at the forefront of entertainment. The Netherlands is fighting for 1st place along with Germany, Spain, and the UK to be the main hub of everything party related.

Techno, which emerged in the 1980s, has become the dominant sound being played on speakers throughout Europe. Ravers from all corners of the globe frequently flock to popular party destinations like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Utrecht to immerse themselves in the 4/4 beats enhanced by sharp hi-hats and lively basslines.

For many people in Europe, Techno is considered to be the most refined type of electronic music. Its consistent rhythm at a tempo of 128 bpm or higher creates a rapid yet expansive sensation that allows the listener to distinguish each sound that is produced in each track.

The Techno scene in the Netherlands, specifically in Rotterdam, is incredibly crowded every weekend. Despite the thumping beats reverberating through packed underground bunkers of people, the electrifying atmosphere remains alive. One might perceive such an experience to be overwhelming, which is understandable. A night out at Rotterdam’s clubs, namely Toffler, Perron, Voodoo, and Masillo, is undoubtedly intense and not suitable for the faint-hearted. However, it is a secure environment, and in fact, it is safer to be inside one of these clubs than out on the streets during the weekend.

To put a picture in your head of what these places are really like. Toffler is a deserted subway station where upon entry, you can immediately hear the muffled thumping beat in the background. As you make your way toward the lockers, you will see unknown individuals dancing, acknowledging each other, and thoroughly enjoying themselves. The dance floor, which resembles a tunnel, is designed to allow enthusiastic ravers to be at the forefront while the more relaxed individuals can lounge on couches located on the sides or in designated smoking areas.

The dynamic DJ booth has hosted renowned artists such as Chris Liebing, Nina Kraviz, Seth Troxler, Loco Dice, Marco Carola, Nic Fanciulli, Hot Since 82 and Adam Beyer. Techno, a music genre characterized by its intensity, may not be fully appreciated by those who have not experienced a high-energy set played by a well-known techno DJ at a party.

Techno has several sub-genres, such as Jungle Techno, which features intricate drum patterns reminiscent of jungle sounds and includes background bongo melodies. In Rotterdam and the UK, the genre is known for its Industrial Techno, which incorporates sounds from heavy machinery, metal scratching, and overall darker and more intense sounds. Melodic Techno has gained popularity lately, as it combines heavy beats with pleasant melodies that people enjoy. Tech House, a well-liked genre, fuses the heavy percussion and kicks of Techno with the bass lines and pads found in House music. Although Tech House has been around for a while, it can also be enjoyed in America.
