Miramar Drive Interview 2015
I had a nice interview with Jacob Craddock aka Miramar Drive, a young artist from Orlando, Florida. What makes him so special are without doubt his skills! He plays guitar, bass, piano, drums, and sings. Miramar Drive is a solo act in the studio, where he plays all instruments and do vocals too… Do you want to know more? Read the interview below.

1 – Can you describe your music style?

I play mainly Alternative music, but my upcoming album “Back to Orlando” is really all over the place. There are tracks that are Rock, Alternative, Straight up Electronic, and Acoustic. There is even a Ballad/Electronic track.

2 – What’s the most challenging part of being a solo act?

Honestly, in the studio, it is very easy. I play guitar, bass, drums, piano, and I sing. So I can do everything myself. I can fulfill my artistic vision of the music completely without having to wait or rely on anyone else. And since I record everything at home, I can take as much time as I want crafting a song and experimenting. But as far as the live setting goes, it does get slightly complicated recruiting musicians to play shows with, but it usually works out.

3 – Tell me about your debut album, titled “Back to Orlando”. What can listeners expect to experience?

The album is available for pre-order on iTunes on October 10th, and is available worldwide on Halloween (October 31st). It is the story of my relocation back home to Orlando, Florida. I moved from Orlando to Newport Beach, California and experienced many hardships there, so I wanted to return to Orlando to be with my family and lifelong friends. Listeners can expect to hear 8 very different songs… That range from Rock, to Alternative, to Electronic, and even include some Acoustic/Ballad type songs. The songs are awesome and I am very proud of them. You can listen to the first single “Back to Orlando” in this interview!

4 – What inspired you to create music?

An Alternative Rock band called Angels & Airwaves. I first heard them when I was about 11 years old, and fell in love with them. The singer and guitarist of the band is also the frontman of blink-182. So that frontman, Tom Delonge, has inspired me do everything that I have done in the past 5 years.

5 – If you could have one of your songs applied to a soundtrack which one would you pick?

That’s a good question… probably “Gift” off of my upcoming album “Back to Orlando”. It’s a balladly-type song, so it could fit in a sad movie.

6 – What are your thoughts personally about EDM music?

I like EDM music, some off it I love! I like EDM artists that include creative musicianship into their songs, instead of just melding a couple songs together and calling it original.

7 – What are your current goals as an artist?

To get my music out to as many people as possible. I know that’s a generic answer, but isn’t that what we are all trying to achieve? Affect as many people as we can with our music?

8 – Do you share your music for free? Why?

I do. I believe that all artists should give their music away for free! I mean let’s face it, no has made money selling albums for the past 10 years. With all music being susceptible to being illegally distributed for free with practically no effort, might as well get some brownie points with your fans and release your tracks for free. I think artists should focus on making money from touring and selling merchandise. The thing is… everyone listens to music on their phones now-a-days. Unfortunately the only way artists can distribute music directly to people’s mobile devices is through iTunes, and Google Play. So iTunes, and Google Play are a valuable retail outlet in that sense. I will be putting out “Back to Orlando” for free on my website miramardrive.com, but it will also be available on iTunes for $0.69 a track and $4.99 for the album. That’s very cheap for a commercially released album.

9 – Are there any concerts that are scheduled for the future?

None at this moment, but I am currently recruiting musicians to tour with. Tour Dates will be announced soon. I am in talks with many venues and setting up dates.

10 – Any shoutouts, praises, or comments that you would like to add?

I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to the Indiegogo campaign for “Back to Orlando”! This album wouldn’t be possible without you guys! And of course a huge thanks to electrowow.net for allowing me to do this interview!
