Interview | Questions And Answers With Marlena Anna
Hot new artist, Marlena Anna took some of her time to answer interesting questions about her music career and life. A talented singer and songrwriter from California immersed in the world of Pop music from an early age. Marlena continues to reap success this time with the release of her upcoming single “Trust” and her debut album ‘Habitual’. More info below!

1 – Hey, thanks for accepting this interview. First up, can you describe your music?

As far as sound goes with my music, it is very Pop/R&B. As far as lyrically, its simple, relatable, and personal. It took awhile to find what sound exactly I would have, but after working on some of my earlier music, this is the sound that really stuck. It’s something that people would want to listen to but also remains a little different and unique.

2 – Let’s start off talking a bit about your future release “Trust”, What inspired you to create this song?

Honestly, I don’t like talking about the meaning of trust because I am in a completely different/better place now and it’s no longer relevant. With that said, “Trust” is a unique song. It is about a time where someone you think is close to you decides to not to be your life anymore. I think “Trust” is a song that many people will be able to relate to and I think it can be therapeutic for people to listen to when they are going through something similar. The allusion to the comforting lullaby really contrasts with the emotions felt when someone breaks the trust you had given them. Adding to those lyrics, all the instruments were recorded live at a studio. It’s a really a special song.

3 – How was the decision made in choosing “Trust” as the second single from your upcoming album ‘Habitual’?

I chose “Trust” for my next single because I wanted to show how I don’t just fit into one mold. My first single was upbeat and fun and this single is an emotional ballad. I wanted to showcase what my voice can do as well as what I can do as a writer.

4 – How would you describe your evolution as a singer and songwriter? When did everything start?

I started writing at a very young age. I wrote my first song when I was just 6. Then I continued to write sporadically until high school. In high school, I began to take music more seriously and wrote songs almost everyday. Writing so often really helped me grow as an artist and discover my writing style. But honestly, sometimes songs just flow out of me and there’s really no big story behind it.

5 – Have you ever written songs for other artists? Is there any future collaboration coming soon?

I have never written songs for other artists. It is something I am very interested in. I love writing and I write so much that I think writing for other people would be something that would suite me well. I’d love to share my songs with others.

There aren’t any future collaborations planned yet, but I’m open to ideas.

6 – Being in the music industry allows for many memorable moments and experiences, Is there one memory or experience that stands out as your most memorable?

Every time I’m in the studio making music it is memorable. However, there was this one performance I did at the Mint in LA a couple years ago. I had the placed filled with friends who had come out to see and had worked so hard on my set. I think it was my best show yet honestly. It felt awesome.

7 – Do you have a favorite place that you just love to hang out in and take in the vibe, music, and people?

I’m always taking things in. I am a very thoughtful person and sometimes I find it hard not to get consumed in my thoughts and ideas. I love to adventure and hang out at the beach and just reflect on life.

8 – What CD in your personal collection would most surprise your fans and friends?

My entire CD collection would surprise my fans and friends. I have a very complex music taste. I listen to everything but country. I have the Sex Pistols, Stone Temple Pilots, Hole, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin to like Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, to Madonna, No Doubt, Maroon 5, Fiona Apple. And then I listen to Flume, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez – like my music taste is all over the place, there’s really no prediction to what I feel like listening to. I like to be very educated in music history.

9 – How is your love life now? Are all your songs related to love and relationships?

I am very happy in my love life now. I think there’s something to say about that. “Trust” was written in such a different time in my life and I never could imagine being where I am now. Life works in mysterious ways, but to benefit you. I am grateful I went through everything I did, because now I’m exactly where I need to be.

All of my songs are about love, yes. That’s because I believe that life revolves around love, all kinds of love. I think there’s this overlying theme in everything humans do, everything that motivates them ultimately, and everything that affects what they do with their lives, and that overlying theme is love. Love is magical, you know, and a lot of what I read growing up (like Emily Dickinson) was based off heartbreak. I want my music to be just as powerful and promote that much of a connection with the audience.

10 – What’s next for Marlena Anna?
