Interview | Questions & Answers With Adam Holiday
With serious experience in playing shows and knowing what audiences want to hear, when Adam Holiday dropped “I Like It When U”, there was no doubt it was going to be a dance floor smasher which would ignite any dance. The release delivered on its promise and was incredibly well received. We wanted to know more about how the track came to life, so we caught up with Adam to have a chat!

1 – So Adam – can you sum up the inspiration behind the name and why you chose it?

As the track was coming together I knew it needed a naughty vocal. I came across the sample and knew it would fit perfectly in the track – the vocal goes ‘I like it when you hold me down’ so the name naturally followed afterward.

2 – It’s a really special release; do you think it’s a sign of things to come in the future for you?

Most definitely! You can expect more of the same sound from me as I always like making peak hour Tech House. I am however working on some slower deeper stuff at the moment, which will hopefully be well received… I’m pretty excited about those!

3 – Do you have any particular influences you think are noticeable in this release?

With this track I just went with the flow and came up with something that I felt would get a good reaction from the dance floor!

4 – How long did it take to complete the tracks from start to finish?

It came together relatively quickly, I would say all in all I finished it in around 10 hour’s studio time spread over a 2 week period.

5 – Was there a specific moment you knew the tracks were finished or was it a slow burner that took a lot of time to perfect?

That is one of the major issues being a producer, as you feel like you can always add more elements, more effects and do more; but sometimes less is more! I did feel it needed more in terms of the buildup and the impact of the drop, and that’s when I added a big siren and double snare.

6 – Do you have a method to starting tracks and was this one unique or similar to usual?

I do like having a starting point, like a sample or vocal to work around as it gives you direction. With this track though it was different – once I had the beat and the bass line it began writing itself.

7 – Finally, where can we get our hands on the single?

All good online music stores – Beatport, Traxsource, iTunes and Amazon.
