Interview | Questions & Answers With Whooda Thunk

If you really want to know who is Whooda Thunk, then I would recommend you to read our exclusive interview. The Sweden-based artist is a rising Rock star with eagerness to share his music. Continue reading below and watch his newly released clip for his single “Used To”.

1 – Your artistic name sounds unique. Where does it come from?

It’s just something I came across while I was reading an article a couple of years ago. It’s a version of ”who would’ve thought?” but I think it’s spelled differently.

2 – How did you get into Rock music itself?

My older brother introduced me to KoRn when I was about 11 or 12. It was my first experience with music that I actually felt connected to. I’ve always been interested in bands that didn’t follow the norm and did something different.

3 – Do you think Rock music is dead or has it evolved?

It’s not dead but it’s on life support for sure. It’s not often that I come across a rock band that actually creates something new and unique nowadays. But that’s just my opinion.

4 – How do you write songs? Do you have a particular way?

I mess around a lot with sound and mangling up audio until I get something interesting. Most of my songs start off that way, even if the original sound or loop doesn’t end up in the finished song. Sounds and noises spark my creativity more than notes and chords usually. After I’ve got a good loop going the song creates itself and the lyrics come naturally. I try not to think too much in the first stages of writing a song, I just follow my instincts.

5 – Why do you think “Used To”, was the right song to make a debut into the American music market?

It’s a punch in the face. It’s not like most new music coming out today. I wanted to force a reaction out of people and make something that stood out. Someone needed to bring back that raw and genuine emotion that I grew up listening to.

6 – Tell us about working with your very good friend Rickard on this track. I get a sense that he is truly your right-hand person.

We met through mutual friends when we were 13 or 14 years old. He needed a bass-player for his skatepunk band. We were both terrible musicians at the time and our band didn’t sound too good either but we’ve stuck together since that time. We’ve always created music and played music together and when I played the first couple of songs from this project he naturally took the part of manager. We compliment each other very well. He’s pretty much my go-to-guy for anything music related.

7 – Do you feel the music video for “Used To” perfectly portrays the lyrics?

Yes, totally. The song isn’t a structured story or anything like that. It’s a panic attack in song-form and I wanted the video to capture that feeling as well. That feeling of claustrophobia and feeling closed off from the rest of the world. Stuck in your own mind in a way.

8 – Clearly there are some pretty good rhymes in this song. Do you consider yourself a fan of Rap?

Yes, I do! I found hip-hop through J Dilla a couple of years ago. Since then I’ve been a big fan of Slum Village, A Tribe Called Quest, Common, and Kanye West. Rage Against The Machine was a good gateway to hip hop also.

9 – Are you currently working on new music or planning live shows?

I have an EP finished that I’m planning on releasing this spring. I make music all the time so I have a bunch of unreleased songs. Me and Rickard are planning live shows as well, hopefully, we’ll be able to play live sometime around the release of my EP. I’m really looking forward to getting up on stage!

10 – Finally, if music were removed from the world, how would you feel?

Probably depressed. I don’t really have a fun answer to that, a world without music just sounds super depressing.
