Ivan Dimov aka Shilton, has been doing Eurodance, and Vocal Trance music since the early 90s. Despite the time that has passed, he has never stopped making new songs. The latest single, called “Lift Me Up”, has currently captured the attention of many fans across the world. This exclusive interview was like a time-travel experience for me, you’ll learn a lot from Shilton!

1 – Why you choose your artistic name Shilton? Does this name have a story ?

When I used to play football at school I was a doorkeeper. At this time my favourite football player from England was Peter Shilton. I had written his name with big letters on my school bag and so my friends started to call me Shilton too.

2 – When did you start your music career?

When I was in high school we did some DJ party shows where I took part as a singer. The first song I performed in front of a crowd was “Atlantis Is Calling by Modern Talking”. It was in the late 80s.

3 – What is the best thing that ever happened in the 90s?

It was the moment when my song “She’s Mystery” was included in a compilation with the hottest summer hits of 1995. This compilation was released by the most popular radio station in my city. I was proud to see my song there among the hits of Scatman John, La Bouche, Scooter, East 17, Moby, Pandora. At this time I still presented myself with my real name Ivan Dimov.

4 – Is Eurodance music still active in Bulgaria?

The Eurodance style is popular all over the world and of course in Bulgaria too. We also have the yearly show We Love The 90s, popular across the Europe, and the national radio stations also play 90s hits.

5 – Do you still enjoy the nightlife and clubs?

Today, honestly I go rare in clubs. The times when I “lived” there are past. Now I concentrate on my newborn daughter Denitsa.

6 – What’s the best song you’ve ever produced? Why?

This is the song “Flame”, the first single under the alias Shilton. I wrote it together with the famous Bulgarian producer DJ Rossko during the summer of 2011. When I heard the final studio version I said: Wow, this sounds like a real hit! This song has a modern sound but at the same time brings us back to the refrains and synths of the 90s Eurodance hits. I still receive excellent feedbacks about it. I’m only sorry I didn’t manage to do a better video for it. One year later, me and DJ Rossko, produced the Hart Remix Edition of it, and a short time ago the Ukranian producer Dreambuster did a Dream House Version which was included in my first Megamix.

7 – What’s the name of your latest single?

My current single is called “Lift Me Up” in a collaboration with the rapper Lightwarrior, well-known from the 90s Eurodance band T-Spoon. We both have same label manager – Krasi Krastev from DMN Records Germany, this way the connection was done easily. I produced the song with my co-authors’ team and Lightwarrior took a part with his rap attack. We also did a video, I shoot my scenes in Bulgaria and he did his in Belgium. It was very exciting for me to work together with the performer of one of my best favourite 90s songs – “A Part Of My Life”, a classic hit by T-Spoon! DMN Records Germany, this way the connection was done easily. 8 – Are you thinking of releasing an album, and if it’s true, when ?

My first album is already finished and contains 19 songs – all released singles til now. a lot of new songs and remixes. It’s titled ‘The Evolution Of Eurodance: Hits and Remixes’. I plan with my label to release a Limited Fan Edition on CD.

9 – What popular DJ would you love to collaborate with?

With no doubts it’s Mauro Picotto, a real Italian legend. He is a great DJ, musician and producer with cult hits. His compositions are melodic and energetic and at the same time so epic. I must confess I was much influenced by his hit single “Komodo”, when I was recording my track “Let’s Fly” in 2001.
