DJ Tips: How To Deal With Rejection?

It is crucial not to let the fear of rejection hold you back. You must be willing to put yourself out there and hope that people will appreciate your talent. Different club owners and promoters may respond differently: some may take their time to decline, while others may not respond at all. However, the best ones will give you a positive response and say yes! If you don’t receive a response from clubs, keep sending your demos until you do hear back. Remember, persistence is key in this process.

If a club owner does respond but decides not to hire you, it’s important to pay attention to the reasons provided. If they point out something you hadn’t realized and you agree with their feedback, make the necessary improvements and send a new demo. They may say, “I was just being polite before,” but the effort you put into addressing their comments with a revised demo can demonstrate your commitment to working for them.

The key is to keep trying until the club owner either gives you an opportunity or explicitly tells you to stop sending demos because they are not interested. You need to have a strong mindset because rejection letters can come in, and many of them may not be polite. However, if you have the skills, you will eventually find someone, somewhere, at some point who will give you a chance and hire you.

Whenever you start to doubt whether this approach is an effective way to promote yourself, remember the story of John Digweed. He made his breakthrough when he sent a demo to Renaissance, and now he is one of the most renowned DJs in the world.
