Interview | Questions & Answers With Cam Daye

If “Could You Be The One” produced by Cam Daye, can be described in one word, it would be pleasing. I’m so oldschool when it comes to music, and I really enjoyed its vibe. Explore all the unknown details about this new song with our fascinating interview.

1 — Hi Cam, Welcome to Electro Wow! How have you been lately?

All is going well, thanks. Can’t complain!

2 — Where did the inspiration for your new single “Could You Be The One” come from?

“Could You Be the One” came to be as a result of a variety of musical inspirations. The songwriting and the general vibe was inspired by the R&B music of the 90’s and early 2000’s. With that said, I was determined to find a way to integrate that classic sound into a track that would be perceived as more current and “with the times.”

3 — There’s a nice combination of vocal elements. Who exactly collaborated with you on this record?

The main vocal was written and performed by L.A. based singer Tiffany Fred, and the rap vocal was written and performed by L.A. based rapper Wakil. Their voices fit perfectly with the vibe of the track, and I couldn’t have asked for anything more.

4 — Was your approach a radio-friendly record first & foremost, with the remix catering for club floors?

Exactly. The original track is intended to be radio-friendly, and the club mix, at 128 BPM, is designed for the clubs.

5 — There’s also an urban influence to the track, what influenced this particular element for you?

I am a huge fan of urban musical styles, so inevitably, several core aspects of the related genres worked its way into this song. Also, this year I have been spending a lot of time in New York City where urban styles of music are very popular, and this exposure has definitely had an influence on me as well.

6 — Besides “Could You Be The One”, do you have plans to release further music across 2018?

I have several original tracks and remixes that are set to be released throughout the rest of 2018, and more updates on these releases will be coming soon.

7 — How would you say your music has evolved over the years?

Since I began producing several years ago, I definitely feel as though my music has developed a lot. At first, I began by making a lot of Progressive House, and I spent a lot of time trying to mimic the sounds and styles of other artists within that genre. As time passed however, I found myself getting inspiration from a much wider variety of artists from all different kinds of genres (many outside of Electronic Music), as well as exploring new/original production techniques, and I feel the results of this are definitely starting to show in my music.

9 — Do you see any difference between the music scene in New York vs. Boston?

Both New York and Boston are home to rich music scenes. However, one difference I have seen between the two cities is that New York is more often the place where new musical trends are started, and is overall more innovative. This is most likely due to the sheer size of the city and its great diversity.
