Shaelyn Avalon
Shaelyn Avalon first established her online presence on YouTube, covering Pop hits from artists such as Ariana Grande, Megan Nicole, Selena Gomez and Jackie Evancho. Soon after, she decided to move to LA to pursue her dreams. In this exclusive interview, you’ll discover this emerging artist and her wonderful album, ‘Wonderland’.

1 — Do you remember what first got you into wanting to create music?

I always loved singing and performing in front of other people. My mom put me in children’s theater and dance very early on. I was already reenacting my favorite musicals before I even started kindergarten. The feeling I get when I sing has always just been a part of me, music just sort of pulses through me and it’s the surest of anything I’ve ever felt. The first song I wrote I was probably around 12 years old. I didn’t think I’d be a writer initially, I just knew I wanted to sing.

2 — Are you still active on your YouTube channel making covers?

I’m currently working on a couple covers to post on there that I’ve got so many ideas about! When I release anything on my channel I always want it to be even better than what I put out previously, an official music video is a tough act to follow but there will be new covers for my fans to enjoy soon.

3 — When and why did you decide to move to Los Angeles?

I moved out here to be closer to everything I knew I would need to be close to if I wanted to make this dream of mine happen. I grew up in a small town and it just wasn’t somewhere I saw myself staying forever.

4 — What was the original idea behind your new album ‘Wonderland’?

Originally the title of the EP was going to be called “New Era” but one day I walked into the studio and told my producer “You know, I was watching Alice In Wonderland last night and I noticed all the parallels the story has to my love life” and we decided to make it as fairytale-like as possible after that. I wrote “Charmed” after the album title switched and then we kept building on the theme from there!

5 — So far, what’s your favorite track on this album? Why?

I think my favorite tracks would have to be “Heartstrings” and “Love Game”. “Heartstrings” is a song I put so much of myself into that everytime I sing it I get a little emotional. It’s definitely the breakup song of all of them. “Love Game” is so dainty and fairylike, I can’t help but feel like I’ve been transported to a different dimension or something. The chimes in the background were my idea, I was very insistent on those being put in post-production.

6 — Are you planning to release a music video for any of your new songs?

I have big plans for one of the two songs I mentioned before, I don’t want to say which yet but it’s a story I definitely want to tell.

7 — Who is your dream artist to collaborate with?

Oh my gosh, I have so many dream collabs! My three favorite constants are Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande. I grew up with their music so getting to be on a track with any one of them would be such an honor!

8 – Do you consider yourself an animal rights advocate? If so, what motivates you to do social work?

I do! Animal rights are something I’ve always been extremely passionate about. I’ve always had dogs and love horses. What motivates me to volunteer and support my favorite organizations is exactly that, I love them and I never want to see an animal in pain.

9 – What’s your ultimate goal as an artist?

My goal is to get to tour and wake up every day knowing that I get to keep creating. This is a world I’ve been fascinated by since I was super young, I want to be a part of it and be able to do a little good in the world as well.

10 – Lastly, is there anything you’d like to say to readers?

A huge thank you to my fans! You make it possible for me to keep doing what I’ve always wanted to do and are always so supportive when I release anything new. I’m so excited to see our little “Avalonian” family grow!
