1 — Which books, films, and music have had a massive impact on your life?
‘The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ is my favorite book, and my all-time favorite movie is ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ and Taylor Swift. All of these things have gotten me through some tough times.
2 — What are three things you can’t live without?
Three things I can’t live without are my boyfriend, my dogs, and chocolate.
3 — What is not normal about you?
I have really bad anxiety/depression. This week has been a really hard week, but I’m trying to power through it with music. It soothes my soul. I also have OCD which makes me do things over and over. I’ve learned to embrace my issues.
4 — Do you have any phobias?
Yes, my biggest phobia is dying young. I also am really scared of spiders.
5 — Are you a cat person or a dog person? Why?
I am a dog person. I have 2 dogs. They are my lifeline. When I am feeling down, I hug them tight and my stress levels dissipate.
6 — When did you realize that you wanted to pursue music as a career?
I wanted to pursue music as a little girl, but I was always too scared of rejection. I had really bad anxiety which also put things on hold for me. When I reached my late 20s, I decided I wanted to pursue music and finally give it a real shot. Writing music helps me really give the lyrics meaning.
7 — If you receive a lifetime achievement award, who would you pay tribute to?
I would pay a tribute to my amazing mother. She has been there for me through thick and thin, and has helped me mold into the young woman I am today. Without her, I don’t think I would be as far as I am. She instilled values in me and told me to never ever give up on my dreams no matter what. Rejection is part of it, but you can’t let that stop you.
8 — What inspired you to write your new single “On Me”?
I actually didn’t write this song. J4 wrote this amazing song, and I have had the honor of singing it. I changed some of the music around to make it more suitable for my voice. I love the song and the message it has behind it. Do not blame someone else for your issues.
9 — Do you believe this song has healing powers?
If it does, then I’m happy. Everyone can interpret this song differently, so it depends on the person.
10 — What’s your favorite lyric line? Why?
My favorite lyric of this song is “I’m tired of all the bullshit, I’m tired of all the lies, I’m sorry if this song takes you by surprise. It is so satisfying to sing, and basically, the point of this lyric is saying I’m done with all of your shenanigans, so take it or leave it.
