Andrew Canlon

In this interview, we take a step back from the world of music to get to know Andrew Canlon on a more personal level. Known for his passion and innovation in music production and DJing, Andrew opens up about his interests and hobbies outside of the music scene.

From his love for martial arts to his favorite films and travel destinations, this conversation offers an insider’s look into the life of Andrew Canlon beyond the beats and melodies.

Join us as we discover the man behind the music, exploring the passions and experiences that shape his world.

1 – Hi, Andrew! How have you been?

I’m doing well, thank you!

2 – To begin, what do you enjoy doing to unwind after a long day?

I hate to sound basic, but after a long day, I generally love to plop down on the couch and fire up the TV.

3 – Are there any interesting fun facts about yourself that you can share with us?

I’m very passionate about martial arts. I started training 13 years ago. Two surgeries later, I’m still giving it my best. I’ve made lifelong friendships in that community and it’s given me so much.

4 – What’s your favourite film?

I love all of the Batman films. It’s tough to pick a favorite, but I think most can agree that The Dark Knight is pretty tough to beat.

5 – What’s your top destination for a vacation?

I’m absolutely in love with California. My wife and I just got back from a vacation in Palm Springs and I already want to go back. I wrote a song about it that I hope to release soon called “Coast to Coast”.

6 – Are you a sports fan? If so, do you have a team you support?

I’m a true New Yorker and I bleed pinstripes. The Yankees are our crown jewel and I follow them year-round. I’m also a die-hard Knicks fan. Prior to having back surgery, I’d play pick-up games fairly often. These days, I stick to watching. Basketball is a way of life in New York City.

7 – What’s your favorite restaurant?

Lady Gaga owns a restaurant on the Upper West Side called Joanne’s and it’s easily one of the most charming restaurants in the city. We go there every so often to catch up with friends. My family also owns a restaurant in Staten Island called Canlon’s. It’s owned by my late grandfather’s cousin, Eddie Canlon, and it’s another charming little Irish mom and pop spot that I highly recommend.

8 – If you could pick one person to sit and talk to, alive or not, who would it be and why?

Man, that’s tough. It’s really hard to pick just one. I’m torn between Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. Both men had such a gift for the spoken word. Their ability to bring people together in the name of freedom is something that I aspire to.

9 – If you received 1 million dollars, what would you spend it on? And why?

Let’s be honest. In 2024, 1 million ain’t gonna get you too far. I’d put it right back into my music and keep grinding away.

10 – What are some values you hold true to in life?

I’m not the type of guy to get up on a soapbox and boast about my values. Live and let live. Everyone is unique. I think it’s more impactful to have a perspective than it is to take a position on any given issue. That’s why I stick to songwriting, not politics.

We finish this interview by thanking Andrew Canlon for his time sharing new details about his life aside from music; this glimpse into Andrew’s life outside of music reminds us that behind every artist is a multifaceted individual with unique interests and stories.
