When we think of House music, the vibe is often one of upbeat energy, infectious rhythms, and a sense of pure escapism. However, the talented duo Azari & III have proven that the genre can also be a powerful medium for exploring the darker corners of the human psyche. Their latest single, “Manic,” is a prime example of this, delving into the turbulent emotions and introspective depths that lie beneath the surface of their signature sound.
As I listened to the B-side of their debut album, I was drawn in by the track’s raw, emotional quality. A strong sense of unease and tension pulses through the production. It hints at the complex inner workings of the human psyche.
The lyrics, while sparse, pack a punch, articulating the struggle to maintain control amidst the chaos of one’s own mind.

“Manic” is a far cry from the carefree, dance-floor-filling anthems that have become the hallmark of Azari & III’s sound. Instead, it’s a moody, introspective journey that invites the listener to confront their own demons and vulnerabilities.
The video, directed by James Henry and edited by George Vale, captures this shift in tone perfectly. Its haunting visuals and unsettling atmosphere bring the mood to life..
As I watched the video, I was reminded of a quote by renowned psychologist Carl Jung: “I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.” This idea lies at the heart of “Manic.”
The track explores the tension between the self we show the world and the turbulent emotions beneath the surface.
The pulsing, hypnotic beat sets the stage for emotional turmoil. It creates a feeling of disorientation and unease. The vocals are raw and vulnerable, expressing struggle and desperation. The protagonist wrestles with the weight of their own thoughts and feelings.
