“Beyond The Trees” – New Dark Melancholic Music From CHROM

Christian Marquis, the creative force behind CHROM, is a total master of the dark, melancholic music you crave when diving into Electro-Pop. His newest single, “Beyond The Trees,” is proof, and yes, it comes with a music video too.

With a minimalist aesthetic, the visuals feature the German vocalist and a ballet dancer, effectively amplifying the emotional side of this amazing song. Seriously, it hooks you right away and even makes you wanna sing along.

With subtle moves, the ballerina hypnotizes you while the synths build this tension that keeps your eyes glued to the screen. Plus, the vocals give you chills as they hit that catchy chorus.

The Weight of Expectation & The Search for Freedom

Right from the start, you get that feeling of not fitting in and dealing with the heavy weight of what everyone expects from you. In my opinion, this tune’s lyrics talk about finding freedom with the person you love, far away from everything, including other people’s opinions or criticism.

The verses mention what might seem like a cliché, but it’s something healthy in any relationship—letting go of the past to start fresh. The track expresses the desire to spend eternity with your partner, and even though it’s dark, melancholic music, it’s got its romantic vibes too.

Basically, it’s a beautiful song to play on repeat, and it’s how I discovered this musical project called CHROM for the first time (not to be confused with the Canadian duo Chromeo). Not to mention, the music video on YouTube has already passed 25,000 views.

This year and next, CHROM will be performing at festivals and clubs not just in their home country of Germany but also in Finland and Poland, where most of their fans are based. That said, their introspective compositions have a universal touch, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they added more dates and locations in the coming months.

It’s worth mentioning that their latest single, “Beyond The Trees” via Out Of Line Music, might just be a teaser for an upcoming album. For now, I couldn’t find any info on that, but I’d recommend keeping an eye on CHROM’s social media for updates.
