Diplo grew up in Miami and credits the influence of homegrown rap as a key role in shaping his overall production style. Diplo has a long history with artist M.I.A. – the two were romantically involved for five years and the duo has created a number of hits together. The relationship between Diplo and M.I.A. has created a lot of media buzz. M.I.A. claimed in an interview with Rolling Stone that Diplo was very jealous and sad when Interscope signed the rapper. Diplo has publicly responded to M.I.A.’s comments and acknowledged that her claims are true, but he has said each time the duo would have controversy they produced great music in the end.
The high-profile controversy has not hurt Diplo’s ongoing success or relationships with other artists – he continues to create great singles and remixes that are played over and over again.
