DJ Green Khaki is an emerging DJ and electronic musician gaining recognition across House music blogs. In this exclusive interview, he shares insights into his musical journey, inspirations, studio setup, and opinions about the modern music scene.
1 – Is your favorite color green khaki? Why is this related to your DJ name?
My favourite colour is neither green nor khaki—it is most probably red. I wasn’t very experienced as an artist at the time, so I came up with a name that I simply thought sounded cool.
2 – When did you start producing House music?
I saw myself referred to as a producer in some promotional materials, but I’m actually an electronic musician. I’ve been doing this for just over four years now.
3 – Who were your early passions or influences in music?
Two albums that had a big impact on me are Wu-Tang Forever by The Wu-Tang Clan and Life After Death by The Notorious B.I.G.
4 – What are currently your main challenges as a DJ?
I’m still learning the craft of DJing. I occasionally receive promo tracks to review. I have my own unique style and stay open to new possibilities.
5 – Do you think the Internet is a good or bad thing for DJs?
Having access to a wide range of digital downloads is essential for any DJ, so I view the Internet as a valuable resource.
6 – What made you decide to release a second EP this year?
I released my first EP titled Spring a few years ago. Releasing something new this year feels like a natural, cyclical step in my music journey.
7 – What’s your opinion about EDM and its commercial success in the world?
I first noticed the term EDM online about two years ago. It’s a new style of Dance music with a commercial twist. I’m not exactly sure how it’s progressing overall, but it’s definitely made an impact.
8 – Tell us about your music studio. What software or instruments do you use to make music?
I use Alesis and M-Audio speakers. For software, I mainly work with ACID Pro 7.0 and Sound Forge Audio Studio, along with some other tools.
9 – Do you prefer to play in big or small venues? How can people contact you?
