Canadian brothers DVBBS keep showcasing their creative prowess by breaking genre barriers with their new single with Wiz Khalifa“SH SH SH (Hit That), a record sitting on the intersection of Bass and Hip-Hop music, infused with a sample coming from a startup rapper, urfavxboyfriend, that DVBBS accidentally stumbled upon on his TikTok account on one of the uploads. They loved the line from the get-go and knew they had to make it into a full-length track. Wiz wasted no time jumping on board, and the rest is history – a unique sound that sees DVBBS experimenting and Wiz’s signature flow with the catchy “SH SH SH” vocal overlay. Wiz Khalifa

A perfect balance of pop hooks, effortless charm, and stoner rap swagger, Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifa was one of the highest-rising stars of a certain sect of mainstream hip-hop in the 2010s. With a series of hits built around slick rhymes and slicker production, Khalifa moved from mixtapes to stadium anthems and even major motion-picture soundtrack collaborations with pop star Charlie Puth. In 2018, Wiz released the single “Hopeless Romantic” with Swae Lee b/w “Real Rich” with Gucci Mane. Both tracks appeared on his sequel, “Rolling Papers 2,” which arrived that summer. Khalifa returned in February 2019 with the Trippie Red and Preme collaboration “Alright,” and revisited his collaborative friendship with Curren$y for the nostalgic mixtape 2009 and the cloudy, old-school-tinged “Fly Times, Vol. 1: The Good Fly Young.” These more off-handed and casual mixtape releases were followed in 2020 by the brief but manicured production of the seven-song EP “The Saga of Wiz Khalifa.” In addition to strongly stylized pop production, the EP included high-profile features from Logic, Quavo, Tyga, Megan Thee Stallion, and more. After devoting much of the next few years to collaborations and rapid-fire mixtape releases like the Juicy J joint project Stoner’s Night and the quadruple-threat Full Court Press with Smoke DZA, Girl Talk, and Big K.R.I.T., Wiz returned in July of 2022 with his seventh solo studio album, “Multiverse.” Recorded primarily in Khalifa’s home studio in Los Angeles, “Multiverse” was a more mature outing for the rapper and dealt with lyrical themes of self-acceptance, fatherhood, and emotional growth. His charm, persona, and weedy wit have been in peak form from the time of his major-label debut – 2011’s “Rolling Papers,” to 2022’s more mature “Multiverse.”

JVNA Unveils Video Game And Anime-Inspired 2nd Studio Album

Published

JVNA album
When JVNA released her single “Play With You” last month as a teaser to her upcoming album of the same name, it was clear that the American-Taiwanese multi-talented powerhouse was completely shifting her paradigm as an artist in this new chapter. With the full release of her 11-track body of work, JVNA is here to let the world see a new side of her–one that paints a picture of a demonic and siren-like anime girl, seducing the listener to let her free during “The Game”‘s prelude.

The album proceeds into the cinematic Bass production fueled with Rap vocals on “The World Is Mine,” which sets the tone with a boss babe attitude and hard-hitting production style. From the dark melodies and stabbing synths of “Demon Time” to the Trance and Hardstyle influences of the cathartic “Take Your Throne,” to the melodic Dubstep style of “Savage,” JVNA is taking no prisoners on this album. Read on for her inspiration behind her deeply personal journey to make “Play With You.”

“I see life like a video game, and we are all given the option to take on different quests. In this album, I imagine myself breaking free from the prison my enemies have put me in. And setting fire in their world with laughter! Muahahaha” — JVNA

California-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist JVNA produces electronic music that plays at the dichotomy of light and dark, bass and melody, organic and synthetic. Raised by Taiwanese immigrants, JVNA studied classical piano from the age of 6 and started writing songs when she was 11.

Her studies continued at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she learned to score films and video games. Initially, JVNA made fun edits and remixes of her favorite anime and video game soundtracks. Her 2018 song “I’m With You,” inspired by her father’s death two years earlier, dared to dive deep into an emotional world.

JVNA self-directed the song’s music video. The Follow-up single “Catch Me,” released in 2019, took JVNA on a sold-out tour across the United States. Due to the pandemic, it was canceled, and JVNA returned to the studio to focus on the album’s production. She pushed herself to incorporate more live keys, piano, and organic textures.

In 2021 JVNA released her debut studio album – “Hope In Chaos,” which is a diverse collection of styles featuring JVNA’s voice like it’s never been heard before, opening up about so much more than the standard dance floor love songs.

American-Taiwanese JVNA Announces 2nd Album, Drops Leading Single

Published

American-Taiwanese JVNA

Multi-talented artist JVNA returns with her new track “Play With You, a female empowerment-themed gem that also serves as the leading single from her forthcoming studio album. Listeners familiar with her previous body of work – ‘Hope In Chaos’ will immediately recognize a transformation in JVNA’s sonic style.

While the former was deeply emotional and vulnerable, “Play With You” single sends a message that JVNA is here to take over control. Featuring her sultry vocals – impressively ranging from spoken word rap to breathy singing – along with melodic basslines and heavy-hitting, serrating synths during the drop, the track positions JVNA nearer to a villain than the melancholic damsel of her past.

After pairing the track with its accompanying music video, I’d venture to say the rest of the album will also have strong influences from Alt-Pop, J-Pop, K-Pop, anime, gaming, and Trance to continue the villainess storyline.

“Visually, I pictured this song being about a cunning anime demon girl in a video game seducing her enemies and killing them at the end. But this song’s message is really about being in charge of your own fate and winning the game of life itself throughout its challenges. Sort of like you’re the game master behind everything pulling the strings. I often face a lot of issues, and I feel like it’s constantly a boys club. I talk about overthrowing the patriarchy in this song with the lyrics – ‘the boys think that I’m here for company, but I’m conducting all the symphonies. I’m the final boss that’s gonna tear them down'” — JVNA about “Play With You” single

After Multiple Plays From Skrillex, QUIX’s “Trust” Gets Its Time To Shine

Published

on

QUIX
Bass maestro QUIX has just released his highly anticipated creation “Trust, which has been blown upon amongst in-the-know fans after Skrillex dropped it in several recent sets. QUIX originally created the track in 2020 as a part of a compilation for charity, never thinking that it would see the light of day (lasers at night) at a festival like Lollapalooza.

Opening with a creepy vocal riff and siren-like effects, “Trust” builds into its epic drop, which features a deep, dark bassline along with plenty of serrating mechanical synths to fulfill all of your headbanging fantasies. With its hard-hitting bass and mosh-pit pleasing sound effects, it’s no wonder “Trust” has found its way to one of Dubstep’s legends.

The track’s popularity spells only good things for QUIX, who has also released “Drop ‘Em” with SOFI earlier this year on Dim Mak, and whose remix of French Montana and DJ Snake’s “Creep On Me” has become a festival anthem. Keep an eye out for more from this talented producer coming very soon!

“Originally I made it back in 2020, and it was part of a compilation album called “Boost Tape vol.1” (a r/Trap selection of songs that was put on Bandcamp for charity). After being approached to be involved in the compilation, I scrolled through some unfinished projects on my computer. I found “Trust,” polished it off, and sent it in, not really thinking it would get crazy attention or anything… Fast forward to 2023, and Skrillex now is now consistently dropping it in sets.

The story goes a DJ/mash-up/edit maker from Australia by the name of Mushu got ahold of “Trust” and mashed it with the recently released Skrillex tune “Rumble.” From there, Mushu sent it to Benzi, the king of mash-ups and edits, who sent it over to Skrillex. Before I knew any of this, I remember going onto Youtube to watch a little bit of Skrillex’s Lollapalooza set and saw in the comments a “tracklist,” and halfway through it, I noticed “ID – ID,” which always gets me a little excited as you know you’re about to hear some heat. Lo and behold, the ID was my very own “Trust.” And with the Skrillex hype, we’ve decided to officially release it alongside a VIP mix as well.” — QUIX

Hailing all the way from New Zealand, QUIX initially traveled to North America in 2017 for 10 shows and finished up doing an astonishing 42 stops. He has been tearing up the trap scene ever since, continuously shaking new ground with his unique sound design.

Coming off three headline tours in 2018, including Coachella and support on Steve Aoki’s Kolony tour, QUIX had a break-out year with his “Illusions EP” on Dim Mak. It has racked up millions of plays and creatively merged genres with powerful vocals while staying true to QUIX’s signature sound.

He has also been honored by Spotify to feature on the cover of their two biggest international dance playlists, “Mint” and “Dance Rising,” and officially remixed the likes of Steve Aoki, GASHI, RL Grime, and more.
