Ever since “EDM” was first used as a catch-all for electronic dance music, the acronym has sparked ire for its sterile vibe and corporate overtones. Personally, I think EDM is an easy way to categorize a bunch of people who like similar things but doesn’t consider the subgenres of the electronic music.
As an acronym, it’s functional, but for people of a certain age, it’s troubling because it doesn’t communicate the nuances of electronic music. It’s too much of an umbrella moniker. There are more descriptive terms to call each subgenre.
