Following on from the success of “Sin Eater,” which garnered 10K streams, as well as being playlisted by Kiss FM & Capital FM, “Edit Your Life” is an incredible follow-up single that straddles the worlds of Synthpop, Indie, and Electronic music with aplomb.
Scroll down to meet EtaCas, the UK duo formed by Rob Reng and Jefferson Duke.
1. How Was The Song Recorded (what was the process like, who was it recorded with, how was the track created)?
Rob was in a hotel room in Orlando in a jetlagged state and got down the chorus synth chords and melody and proceeded to prance around the room in headphones in the middle of the night. All the synths hit off the bar which adds to the overall feeling of a slightly stoned but irresistible groove. Back in the UK, we develop the song further, layering in the gritty bass guitar and Jefferson’s slide guitar to complete the sonic tapestry.
2. What Inspired You To Write / Create The Track?
We both love a laid-back, California-style Synthpop sound. We added touches of disco funk and just the right amount of underlying grit.
Rob sends over the output from his hotel room private disco, which inspires Jefferson to write about the negative impact of social media, especially on broken relationships. After seeing this happen to many close friends, we know it’s something that needs to be said and put into a song.
3. What Is The Message You Wish Listeners To Take Away From The Track?
A breakup of any relationship can be a distressing and painful ordeal. Throw social media into the mix, and jealousy, obsession, unconscious/conscious mind games, loneliness, and ‘virtual self vs reality’ is heightened.
This song captures the perspective of someone experiencing all these emotions. Their ex erases them from social media and replaces them with images of a perfect new life.
This is a song for anyone who has had to navigate a break-up in the modern world.
4. How did you get into music?
We’ve both been musical and multi-instrumentalists since early childhood. Rob was very much into electronic and dance music and indeed already had a successful career as a breakbeat DJ/Producer with multiple plays on Radio 1 and a DMC worldwide breaks chart number 1 single.
Jefferson was much more on the guitar-led side and took his loop pedal live show to great heights and wide acclaim. Together, we form a modern-day force that commands attention.
