Katy Perry and Alesso‘s fans didn’t expect this secret collaboration called “When I’m Gone.“ One way or another, it feels refreshing for the American Pop singer to conquer new musical terrains.
However, this will be the second time she has experimented with electronic sonic textures. In 2019, she did a similar tune with Future Bass producer Zedd, together they dropped the underrated gem “365.”
Despite the club-ready grooves on “When I’m Gone,” her newest masterpiece is also radio-friendly enough.
The music video looks futuristic and edgy; therefore, it will grab your attention right away. Directed by Hannah Lux Davis, visuals feature a Boston Dynamics’ Spot robot dog. Add to this an energetic choreography at some abandoned oil refinery facility.
Sincerely, the whole concept reminds me of Britney Spears’ ‘Till The World Ends’ era, which is totally acceptable. Obviously, at its essence, art is a process of transformation.
In conclusion, “When I’m Gone” is a song you will be jamming to in the next few weeks. Best of all, Katy Perry is back with her long, black hairstyle. Certainly, it feels more like it’s her again.
What do you think? Is she evolving musically or just following trends?
