HOMO (aka Jordan Nash) is a rising artist killing it in the urban music scene. His latest track, “ADDICTION,” dives into fresh Reggaeton beats, fusing them with his signature style. And even though he’s not a native Spanish speaker nor a Latino rapper, his flow and lyrics go crazy.

Want the full scoop? Check out the interview below!

1 – Being called the “London Bad Bunny” is quite a comparison. How do you honor that influence while carving out your own distinct sound?

I really appreciate the amazing artists that done it before me. They all inspire me, but to be honest, that’s as far as it goes. My style is unique to me, and hopefully, I’m bringing a new, fresh outlook to the genre and the Hispanic community.

2 – How did you first connect with Reggaeton, and what made you feel this was the genre for your voice?

I make Hip-Hop music also, but it was during the pandemic when I started to learn Spanish. I began to explore, and suddenly, within a few years, I was writing songs in Spanish. So it was a weird one, but probably my calling, as they say.

3 – What’s more challenging: finding the right Spanish words to express your emotions, or making them flow with the Reggaeton rhythm?

Obviously I’m not a native speaker, so there is never a day without a challenge during the writing and production process. So I’d say both!

4 – Your new single “ADDICTION” explores being hooked on someone or something. What personal experiences inspired you to tackle this theme?

When people talk about addiction, they only think about alcohol or drugs, but as humans, we are literally addicted to everything. Anything in excess can be problematic! I have a video game addiction, and at one point, it took over my life.

I was making the movie COME AWAY back in 2018, and my obsession with gaming caused me to ignore my prep, and suddenly I wasn’t ready with my lines or anything, and I was shooting scenes with Angelina Jolie! I was anxious, then fell into a deep depression.

The song is not that deep. It’s about addiction, but I think it’s important not to drop your head in shame. We’re all human and the same. There is usually a way out. My music celebrates rather than feeling sorry for ourselves.

5 – Walk me through creating “ADDICTION’s” sound. Did you work alone or bring in collaborators for the production?

I always work alone when I make my music and just use the knowledge I have from music to create, so I tend to blend a lot of genres, like my track “ADDICTION” isn’t the typical Reggaeton beat you’re used to hearing. Some people were saying the beginning of the track sounds Indian, but the instrument they’re saying sounds Indian is actually a Russian Balalaika, which is a Russian guitar!

6 – How do you want people to feel when they hear this track, both physically and emotionally?

I’m a happy vibes person, so hopefully emotionally you’ll feel a little happier than before the first listen, and for the ladies, I wanna see you shake that ass!

7 – You’ve transitioned from acting in major productions to making Reggaeton. How has your performance background influenced your approach to creating new jams?

They are both totally different in my opinion. I’m a totally different person on screen but the music is who I am and what I’m about.

8 – Where do you see yourself taking Reggaeton that maybe hasn’t been explored yet?

My music isn’t the typical Reggaeton sound, perhaps a hybrid. Keep up with what I’m doing, it’s not traditional, but I’m having fun, so fuck it.

9 – Have you ever thought about moving to a Reggaeton hub like Puerto Rico to deepen your connection to the genre?

Absolutely, I need an invite first!
