In this exclusive interview, Zye Ca$h delves into his personal journey, from using poetry as a form of therapy to becoming a successful rapper and singer. His new single “Love Someone” is a powerful anthem for finding genuine love. Learn more here!
1 — Tell us a bit about your background, when did you get interested in music?
I started writing poems when I was 19 years old and going through one of the worst times in my life. These poems were my way of getting out the pain I was feeling and my way of coping. Down the road years later, it turned into me rapping and singing.
2 — How do you hope your new song “Love Someone” will connect with listeners?
I hope for anyone out there that feels lonely and wants to give up on love will second-guess that decision. It is so hard, especially these days, to find real genuine people to connect with and have loyalty and unconditional love. I’ve wanted to give up plenty of times but I truly believe it is worth getting your heart broken and going through disappointments to find true love.
3 — How do you balance being a single father with your career as a musician?
It is hard. I have to stay where I live in Virginia because my daughter is here so I can only travel and get out so much. I technically could leave for longer periods of time but it is so hard for me to be away from my daughter for more than a week or two. It has also been my biggest motivation. I want to be able to look into my daughter’s eyes and tell her to chase her dreams and never give up. Daddy did it.
4 — You mention the importance of handwritten letters and old-school love in the song. Why these gestures are meaningful to you?
I actually write my daughter a handwritten letter every day before school. I think doing the simple things for those you love keeps the relationship fresh and shows you care. Whether it’s a handwritten letter or a text message saying “you’re beautiful,” you want to make sure your person knows you love them and care as much as possible.
5 — In what ways do you think these lyrics stand out from other songs in your genre?
I feel like “Love Someone” shows the struggle of being single as well as the value of love at the same time. I’ve had many of my followers tell me the song made them cry because they can relate. There are a lot of people out there like me that have a hard time finding that genuine love they have been looking for.
6 — What do you look for in a relationship?
Loyalty, ability to be a great mother, and purpose-driven. I was told by my spiritual father “God, Garden, Girl.” First have a relationship with God, next get your garden/career, then bring a girl into your “garden” to help and build together. I don’t just want a romantic partner but also someone that is passionate about the things I am. It makes it easier and more healthy when you’re able to team up and work together.
7 — How has the response to “Love Someone” been so far?
It has been mind-blowing honestly. I didn’t expect so many people to connect to the lyrics like they have. This is my first official single and the pre-saves have been amazing reaching over 8k with 2 more weeks until the release.
8 — How do you think being active on TikTok has impacted the promotion of your music?
I have so many friends on TikTok that have helped promote and push this song. The day I got most of my pre-saves, a lady on TikTok was actually live streaming with me telling everyone how great the song is and helping me push it. TikTok played a major role in why I have been able to do music full-time and continues to open doors for me.
9 — What are your goals for this new year?
I would love to go on tour and play in different states. I also want to consistently release music, videos, and content for my followers. Lastly, continue to be present for my daughter as much as possible.
10 — Lastly, how do you plan to continue growing as a singer and songwriter?
Practice, practice, practice. I believe it’s important to write daily as well as work on vocal training daily. I didn’t start singing until I was 26 years old so it is important for me to work harder than everyone else. I refuse to allow my lack of experience keeps me from reaching my goals.
