Michael Holbrook Penniman Jr., aka MIKA, is officially back, and his latest single, “Excuses For Love,” is the Pop anthem you’ve been waiting for. Featuring on his 7th studio album, ‘Hyperlove,’ the song is a return to his signature catchy sound.
Beyond that, it carries a powerful message about authenticity, urging listeners to stop shrinking themselves for others and to start expressing their feelings boldly. Watch the music video directed by Oliver Jennings below.
Vintage Cars and Coastal Stars
MIKA headed to the wild shores of Dungeness to bring “Excuses For Love” to life in a seriously cool way. This music video features a fleet of vintage cars, including a killer classic Mercedes-Benz, rolling through the marsh’s surreal, desert-like landscape.
Even with the fierce Kent winds, MIKA served up high-fashion vibes against the backdrop of the iconic lighthouse. It’s a stunning mix of retro wheels and coastal scenery that perfectly captures the song’s bold, carefree energy.

From a Global Smash to a New Pop Masterpiece
Needless to say, “Relax, Take It Easy” is still the GOAT and probably the best thing he’s ever done. However, “Excuses For Love” is right there on that same level of leaving a mark on everyone who hears it.
I’m saying it again: this tune is so anthemic it basically forces you to belt it out at the top of your lungs. That’s the whole MIKA essence, making songs that actually stand out from all the usual filler you hear on the radio.
This time around, Michael Holbrook Penniman Jr. feels more mature and reflective, diving deep into what love is really about. It’s got an infectious melody with lyrics that ground you, reminding you to stop apologizing for who you love or how deeply you feel.
Definitely one of my favorites off the ‘Hyperlove’ album. It’s out in the wild now, so start streaming!
