Honolulu’s nightlife is about to collide with one of the island’s most iconic comfort food spots. Zippy’s Kahala, the diner locals have been hitting for nearly 60 years, is flipping the script with its first-ever rave. The reason? Nectar is celebrating the launch of its new project, Nectar Radio, with a one-night-only pop-up that promises to be loud, sweaty, and way beyond tradition tomorrow night.
On deck: Mr. Carmack, the Filipino-Hawaiian producer who’s carved out a global rep with his boundary-pushing beats, plus subtoll, a Japanese-American artist quickly rising in the local scene. Only 120 people will get through the door, which means this show is as intimate as it gets, and once the line caps, that’s it.
The Zippy’s activation is more than just a party. It’s the kickoff of Nectar Radio, a new digital platform dropping DJ sets on YouTube and socials. The focus? Giving shine to Asian and Asian-American DJs and producers who’ve long shaped the culture but rarely had a dedicated spotlight. Think of it like a new kind of MTV, but tuned to the beats and voices driving today’s dance floors.
For Nectar, this is nothing new, though, pushing boundaries is their thing. Since 2020, the Asian-American-founded brand has built a cult following with flavors like Lychee, Asian Pear, and Li Hing Pineapple, quickly becoming the #1 Asian-flavored alcohol brand in the U.S. despite only being sold in eight states. Now they’re leveling up with the announcement of their new beverage, SoJuice, a formidable 8.8% ABV soju juice cocktail fruit pairing offered in unique flavors such as Calamansi Watermelon, Lychee Lime, White Peach Rambutan, and Yuzu Umeboshi.
Tomorrow night at Zippy’s is just the start; it looks like Nectar Radio is here to mix flavor, culture, and community.
