Nicky Romero Returns To Universal/Virgin With Dance-Pop Gem

Published

on

Dance music veteran Nicky Romero releases his third single on Universal Music/Virgin Records titled “I Hope That It Hurts” with Norma Jean Martine. The song is a stunning example of Romero’s ability to produce everything from the mainstage festival dance floor fillers to radio airwaves-friendly Dance-Pop crossover gems that truly hits in the feels. With a winning combination of emotive vocals and organic, cascading melodies, “I Hope That It Hurts” is the type of breakup anthem that you’ll be belting out in the shower, in the car, or after a few glasses of wine. In addition to his countless releases on Romero’s very own Protocol Recordings, he previously released “Why Do I Call” and “Nights With You” on Virgin/Universal, while Norma Jean Martine had collaborated on some big hits with the likes of Ofenbach on “Head Shoulders Knees & Toes” (over 350M on Spotify alone) and Lost Kings on “When We Were Young” (over 110M streams on Spotify) making the talented American one of the most in-demand singers/songwriters in the world.

I Hope That It Hurts

“‘I Hope That It Hurts’ is a special song to me, as the whole creative process was quite a journey. I fell in love with the first demo of the song, but it was originally too far away from my sound. So my biggest challenge was to turn this beautiful song into something I felt comfortable with without losing the DNA of the original writing and Norma’s voice, which captivated me when listening to the very first version of it. She really brought the song to the next level with her amazing performance. I’m really excited to share this one with the world.” — Nicky Romero

“I felt honored and couldn’t pass up the opportunity of collaborating with DJ legend Nicky Romero. I’m really proud to say that this is my first ever release with a producer credit attached to my name. During lockdown, I had to learn logic to stay in the songwriting game, so I actually recorded the vocals for this song myself while in my childhood home in New York.” — Norma Jean Martine

After taking the world by storm with early hits such as “Legacy” with Krewella and the #1 single “I Could Be The One” with Avicii, Nicky Romero quickly proved that his talent is ever-evolving and here to stay. After launching his Protocol Recordings imprint in 2012, the renowned performer, producer, and label head continued his personal successes with a string of high-profile releases, ranging from collaborations with Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, W&W, Timmy Trumpet and Steve Aoki to remixes for the likes of Robin Schulz, Kygo, Rita Ora, Steve Aoki, Martin Garrix, Jess Glynne and more. While showcasing his label’s roster via his weekly Protocol Radio show, Nicky Romero continues to innovate and evolve, and with his annual “Nicky Romero & Friends” ADE showcase and the launch of Monocule alter-ego, he keeps proving his ability to turn into gold everything he touches.

“‘Kids Like Us’ is a song that has a very special place in my heart. As I crafted the beats and melodies, I felt the music come alive, a vibrant tapestry of sound that beckoned you to feel like a kid again. The title came from a place deep within my heart, a longing for the innocence of youth when the world was a playground, and worries were but fleeting whispers. Like a technicolor dream, the song paints vivid images of laughter, sun-drenched afternoons, and endless possibilities. Each note was a brushstroke, every lyric a stroke of nostalgia’s brush. It was a melody that transported you back in time while keeping one foot firmly in the now, a balancing act of emotion and innovation. What started out as a very uncommon and difficult topline ended up being one the most emotional songs I’ve ever worked on. The big vocal hook, together with the pop-ish verses, is something very different from what I usually produce, but for me, that’s the magic about this record” — LUM!X

At just 21 years old, Austrian-Italian musician LUM!X, real name Luca Michlmayr, is quickly becoming one of the hottest names in the global electronic music scene. To date, LUM!X’s songs have been streamed well over 2 billion times, leading him to over 30 diamond, platinum and gold certifications. With a signature style that’s as smooth as it is hard and refreshing as it is versatile, LUM!X represents the next step in the evolution of the modern DJ, bringing with him a sound that’s not only primed for the radio and the club, but geared for the viral airwaves as well. He has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the industry already, including Gabry Ponte, DVBBS, KSHMR, and remixed the likes of Robin Schulz, Afrojack, Steve Aoki, Alan Walker, and R3HAB to name only a few. In 2022, he became one of the first DJs to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, representing Austria in the competition. In 2023, he also won two prizes at the Amadeus Awards of Austria for Song Of The Year and Best Dance Act with his song “Halo,” featuring Pia Maria.

Taylor Dayne

The unstoppable production Dance-Pop trio Cash Cash teams up with one of the Top Dance artists of all time – Taylor Dayne, for their new smash hit, a 2023 take on “Tell It To My Heart, originally released by Taylor back in 1987 as her debut single, after which she rose to global stardom.

Cash Cash’s new song incorporates newly recorded, simply stunning vocals from Taylor Dayne while adding fresh elements of autotune and vocoder to certain samples to make for a groovy and digitized sound. The New Jersey-based producer and songwriter group incorporates their dynamic sound in the form of upbeat, emotive chords and a progressive bassline mixed with in-your-face synths, giving the track a modern flavor of old-school, Disco-inspired ballads that pull on heartstrings for many years to come.

“Tell It To My Heart” is out on Ultra Records/Sony Music.

“‘Tell It To My Heart’ was such a legendary song of its time with such a unique sound. The vocals alone had such a powerful instant melody that in combination with the lyrics, made for an infectious hook. The track also had such a fun, iconic 80’s tone with the synths and instruments that we really wanted to preserve in our version. I think we found the perfect balance in taking a trip down memory lane while going someplace new at the same time. There’s a popular phrase that a hit song is a hit song no matter how it’s dressed up. We took this already phenomenal song and put a whole new 2023 suit and tie on it. Taylor also is one of those artists that’s simply #stillgotit, and it shows in this version in which she completely recorded brand new vocals for.” —
