Rick Cee Interview 2015

Rick Cee Interview 2015

Rick Cee is a House/Techno/Tech House DJ & Producer from Manchester, UK. He has created several notable productions and remixes that have charmed ravers from all over the world. In this interview Rick Cee spoke to Electro WOW about how he became involved in the dance music scene.

1 – When and how did all start?

I used to “acquire” my sister Hacienda’s tapes from her bedroom when I was younger and this is when my love of house music begin. I bought decks shortly after in 1994 for just £35 – one Sony and one Technics, using a wheel to change the pitch, complete with a mixer originally from Tandy (inclusive of echo button!). A few months later I was playing the main room at Fluid in Manchester and it went from strength to strength.

2 – Who were your early influences?

Jeremy Healy and Graeme Park (Hacienda).

3 – Were you nervous launching yourself as an artist?

Yes, I used to get nervous before gigs and to be honest,17 years later I still do, but they are good nerves and I channel them into my performance.

4 – In the early 2000s you were offered to perform in many popular UK clubs (Garlands, Sankeys, Pacha, etc.) How did this come about?

I took part in a DJ competition in Manchester at a club called Elemental where I got noticed by promoters and it went from there. It was all about networking with the right people, handing out promo cds and not being afraid to put myself out there.

5 –  Are you part of a radio show?

Yes, I own a record label called Cut The Mustard Recordings and we have a show on Sdance Live London 96.1fm every Saturday between 12 and 2pm.

6 – What’s the best Techno/Underground song ever created?

Tricky one as there are so many to choose from but Jeff Mills – The Bells is one that instantly comes to mind.

7 – How do you feel about the success of your latest release “Goodlanman” on Beatport?

I am amazed by all the support the track has been getting, from friends to the big name DJ’s and to be up there with the rest of them is a real achievement. I’m very grateful for all the support and am so pleased that all the hard work is paying off.

9 –  Where can we catch you DJing over the next months?

I have gigs booked in London, Ibiza and Italy so far!

10 – What’s next for you as a producer and DJ?

Keep working hard doing what I love and becoming a production machine!
