Los Angeles-based Bass duo RIOT, composed of Tom Davidson and Daniel Magid, ignites a new chapter in their boundary-smashing career with the release of their long-awaited sophomore album, ‘The Machine,’ out now via NGHTMRE & SLANDER’s label Gud Vibrations. A 15-track sonic revolt blending cinematic storytelling, explosive Bass, and futuristic textures, ‘The Machine’ marks RIOT’s most ambitious and defiant statement to date.
Led by the powerful focus single “March of the Machine,” the album is a concept-driven body of work inspired by themes of resistance, transformation, and artistic freedom in an increasingly mechanized world. Known for fusing progressive melodies with punishing low-end grit, RIOT sharpen their signature sound into a sharpened blade—wielding heavy Bass not just for chaos, but for revolution.
“‘The Machine’ was born out of rebellion and the strong belief that no matter how massive the machine is, we won’t back down,” say RIOT. “We wrote this from the perspective of the machine—not because we are it, but because we refuse to become it.” The duo elaborates: “To us, the machine represents everything we’re up against as artists and as people. It’s the expectations, the pressure, the cold system that tells us how we should sound, look, or move in order to succeed. But we’re not here to play by those rules. Every note we play and every lyric we write is part of our march forward. Not toward control but toward liberation.”
“March of the Machine,” the lead single, encapsulates this tension with cinematic force: “This track came from a place of tension between creation and destruction, between human ambition and the rise of artificial control,” RIOT explains. “It tells the story through the eyes of a machine-like entity, a futuristic prophet or ruler that has evolved beyond humanity. At its core, ‘March of the Machine’ is about power—it asks what it means to claim it, to trample with it, and to change everything in the process.”
Beyond the explosive title track, ‘The Machine’ showcases RIOT’s full command of the Bass music spectrum and creative range. Album opener “Genesis 710” sets the tone with an ominous, sci-fi ambiance voiceover that builds into a cybernetic explosion—an overture for the revolution to come. “High Altar” blends haunting choirs, warped synths, and militant percussion into a shadowy ritual of digital rebellion. Meanwhile, “Click Clack” feels like pure chaos incarnate, with mechanical glitches and industrial force powering one of the heaviest tracks on the album.

The frenetic “Deadshot” strikes quickly and violently, like an automated warning siren before the drop. On the other side of the spectrum, “Slide” is a complete surprise in a direction nobody could’ve expected – Hip-Hop. With pulsing grooves and slick lyrics, it closes the album on a reflective, yet resolute note—leaving listeners in the afterglow of a battle still being fought.
These unreleased tracks sit alongside previously dropped fan-favorites like “Back To Back,” “Try Again,” “Hurricane,” and “Metalicious,” weaving a complete and emotionally charged experience that blurs the line between music, message, and machine.
