Published

on

If you’re interested in songs about gay love with deep lyrics, you might really vibe with “Close Your Eyes” by Matías Roden. It’s got this Electro-Pop sound with synthy melodies and melancholic tones that make it impossible to listen to just once.

You can tell this LGBT artist is seriously talented due to his amazing voice and knack for writing verses that hit you right in the feels.

Love in the Shadows, Told Through Music

The music video for “Close Your Eyes” has a super vintage aesthetic and tells a gothic story inspired by the Victorian era. Matías Roden wanted to portray the dramatic tale of a gay relationship that has to stay hidden, kept in the shadows, just like it often was in conservative societies back in the day.

What’s really awesome is that this project got funding from FACTOR, the Canadian government, and private radio broadcasters. Honestly, it’s such a great initiative, and more countries that support inclusion should totally follow their lead.

A Song About Gay Love and the Path to Equality

“Close Your Eyes” is one of those gay love songs that’s about the regret of not being able to be with the person you love because of your own fears. In my opinion, it’s such an unfair experience that no one should have to go through.

And that’s exactly why it’s still so important to keep raising our voices, protesting, and fighting for equal rights.

Matías Roden is based in Canada, but he’s got Peruvian roots. Sadly, in Peru, same-sex marriage still isn’t legal, even in the 21st century…

Hope is the last thing to go, and even though the road is long, Matías Roden’s art inspires change and fuels the fight for equality.
