Vlade Kay

The first time I heard about Vlade Kay was when he collaborated with DJ Snake and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike on the remix of “All This Lovin,” released back in 2020. In this interview, he offers some insight into his career and his fresh single, “Chanel. Learn more here!

1 — How did you get started composing and working with pop and electronic music?

I’ve always liked RnB, Soul, Funk, and artists like James Brown and Michael Jackson (to name a few) so it was very exciting to me when the genre began to be more incorporated into today’s popular music. I think mixing genres will always be an inspiration for me, and it felt very natural to take these traditional elements and compose new songs around them. With electronic music, it’s the same, like remixing a song. That’s why I loved working with different DJs, they always bring a whole new perspective to my music. I also admire how electronic music brings people together with unity, love, and just a good positive feel! The big festivals are just amazing, and it’s all so beautiful to me.

2 — How did growing up in Saint Petersburg affect your musical development? Why did you move to LA?

I’ve always traveled, even since I was born. I was going to school in London as a child. To me music is universal and I’m very blessed to have been able to experience so many interesting places which ultimately gave me my inspiration. Therefore, I wish I could spend even more time in LA. For now, I’ve only lived partly there, but maybe I will get a chance to explore new music, creatives, and inspirations soon. After all, LA is the place to be.

3 — How do you take care of your voice as a singer?

I have an insane routine, haha. To me, my voice is everything. I avoid all A/C. Even if we record in Dubai and the studio is getting HOT. I drink warm, not too hot, tea every day, with lots of honey. And in general, I try not to overuse my vocals. It’s really important to me. It’s difficult when traveling so much. Fatigue and jet lags are not good for the condition…

4 — Can you remember which has been the biggest moment of your career so far?

I think the chance to collaborate with big established artists. I know that I’m still working on my career, to improve and to make better music, and to have the chance to work with massive talents whom I look up to, is a very humbling feeling. I learn so much from it, and it really shows how much work and discipline it takes to make it to the top. It’s a good reminder!

5 — Tell us why Dubai is the inspiration behind your newest jam “Chanel”?

We wrote it in Dubai. My team and I arranged a songwriting camp where songwriters and producers came to Dubai for a week to write songs. We like to make these camps. They are not only amazing for inspiration, but also bring writers from all over the world together, and like this, magic can really happen!

6 — What’s your favorite lyric line from this song? Why?

I have a lot of favorites but one recent fav is: “You should have put the blame on me but you played me instead” from my upcoming EP track “I Tried.”

7 — Is this the first single off your upcoming EP ‘Detox’? When is its release date?

I’m releasing 3 singles. “Chanel” (Oct 14th), “Dancing Through The Night” (Nov 4th), and “Detox” (Dec 2nd). “Detox” along with the whole EP, I’m very excited!

8 — Are you looking to detox something?

Haha, aren’t we all? What I really mean by this song is that you shouldn’t be afraid to go through with anything that is good for you. We all have our battles, and I want to encourage everyone to at least take a step toward a better healthier self. I hope we can talk more about it together when it’s out!

9 — Will you release new music at the end of the year? If so, can you reveal more details?

This year is the EP, but early next year I have some very exciting releases. Actually, collaborations.

10 — Finally, is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Don’t let anything stop you from following your dreams and ambitions! And listen to my new single “Chanel.” 😉
