1 – How’d you come up with your artistic name ‘An Ordinary Day’?
By definition, “ordinary” is that which is standard or typical. In practice, we create and define our own ordinary, which makes us unique as individuals. What’s standard for me and another artist could be completely different. An Ordinary Day is something that stuck with me, as I try to approach my music and creativity based on continually evolving standards. It’s evident in the records I’ve released, as no one track sounds exactly like another.
2 – What percentage of your life is spent on your music career?
Career-wise, I’d say around 30-40%. I hope to increase that number, but at the moment, it is a side business that I’m still building and growing. I work a full-time job during the day to support the habit and have a few other endeavors that require some of my time.
3 – If you were to encounter a person who had never heard your music before, how would you describe it?
At a high level, I would classify my music as electronic with a touch of soul. Some clichés are there, but finding and communicating my own sound is very important to me.
4 – Why did you decide to work with Ned Singh on your latest track “Rather Lovely”?
Ned and I have collaborated in the past on three other records, one yet to be released. I feel Ned easily picks up on my vision of the music production and portrays that through his lyrics and vocals. We are both in a similar phase in finding and developing our individual styles.
5 – Did you write the lyrics too? What is this song about?
I did not write the lyrics; they were written by Ned. My interpretation of the track is about the trials, tribulations, and progression of a relationship.
6 – What is the best show you’ve performed or attended in the last few years?
I do not currently perform. My goal is to get more material finished and produced to create a live set. I’ve always enjoyed the backend work in the studio but have some interest in performing live eventually. The best show I’ve attended recently was by Zhu and Don Diablo.
7 – Can you mention what DJs have influenced you as an artist?
Many artists have influenced me in different ways, not just DJs or electronic musicians. I’m influenced by a lot of 90’s R&B, grunge rock, and even film composers. DJs/musicians I frequently listen to include Deadmau5, Zhu, Porter Robinson, Disclosure, Don Diablo, Borgeous, The Weeknd, and Empire Of The Sun. I think keeping an open mind in music is critical, and I pick up on subtleties in various genres, from independent to major acts.
8 – Is there anything you would like to improve or update in your music studio?
My computer and production desk. I’m looking to build a custom PC to handle larger project files. Other than that, I’m in a decent place with analog hardware. I’m always on the prowl for new plugins and soft synths.

10 – Are you planning to release an album or a music video this year?
I’ve pondered both but have no plans to release either this year. I’ve thought about packaging the singles I’ve released into an EP. As for both an album and a music video, I hope to release them one day. I want both to be conceptual and unique, which requires more time and planning. For now, I plan on releasing mostly singles.
