As darkness draws in and Christmas quickly approaches, the thought of going to a music festival might be the last thing on our minds. Many of us have an image of music festivals as watching our favourite DJs with our friends, drinking beers and soaking up the summer sun.
But, believe it or not, some of the coolest (no pun intended) music festivals across the world actually take place during the winter months. Global online music school, Point Blank, lists six of the best winter music festivals that you can book right now.
Taking place in the beautiful French Alps, Rise is a six-day music festival, showcasing some of the best electronic music talents out there, including Annie Mac, Richy Ahmed and Sonny Fodera. Running from 15-22 December, Rise Festival promises a mixture of “snow, music, and adventure”, making it the perfect destination to spend a fantastic week just before Christmas, breathing in the crisp mountain-top air, skiing and partying with your pals.
Another one set in the gorgeous French Alps, this week-long festival in the mountains features a variety of snow-covered stages and arenas, cute winter-themed nightclubs, and an infamous stage which is set in an igloo. Moreover, Snowboxx has become notorious for its wild après-ski parties, ensuring an awesome, fun-filled week.
It runs from 23-30th March 2019, with a line-up that includes Craig David, Rudimental, The Mendez Brothers, Jax Jones, and many, many more.
3. Rock the Pistes
Yet another music festival set in the French Alps, within the Portes du Soleil ski area, this one effortlessly combines music with winter sports, appealing to many diverse tastes. Festival-goers are free to snowboard or ski between performances, with a wide variety of musicians across several genres in attendance. Taking place on 17-23 March, the current line-up includes Charlie Winston, Gaetan Roussel, and Hyphen Hyphen.
Running for 20 years now, Snowbombing takes place in Mayrhofen, Austria, on 8-13 April 2019, and features some of Europe’s most prominent musicians, including Stormzy, Fatboy Slim and The Prodigy. With many more acts to be announced over the coming months, this one is sure to be a memorable experience.
It’s not just about the music, either; festival-goers can partake in various weird-and-wonderful activities, such as alpine yoga sessions, chairlift speed-dating, mountain paragliding and more!
This festival is the largest in a series of music events taking place at the Sölden resort in Austria. It will take place between 4th and 9th April 2019, and although the program has not yet been released, if their track record is anything to go by, we can expect to see some of the world’s best EDM DJs performing, all with the beautiful backdrop of the Austrian mountains.
Any electronic music fan will be well aware of Tomorrowland, one of the world’s biggest and best annual music festivals, set in Belgium. In March 2019, Tomorrowland will introduce its first-ever winter edition, welcoming 30,000 attendees to the stunning Alpe D’huez resort in France.
In true Tomorrowland style, expect big-name EDM DJs, including Armin Van Buuren, Martin Garrix and Steve Aoki, as well as jaw-dropping stage sets and memorizing production levels. This is one you absolutely cannot miss!
