When we talk about Hi-NRG Disco, the first thing that comes to mind is definitely Patrick Cowley and his infectious synth tracks. It’s been decades since his passing, but today, Hercules & Love Affair is breathing new life into this fantastic sound with the new single “I Get High,” featuring Lips & Burns.
To get an experience that’s just as trippy as the video below, I highly recommend throwing on your headphones and cranking up the volume. I promise you, this is exactly the dose of euphoria you’ve been looking for!
The music video is a live performance at deseo, a club in Buenos Aires, Argentina, known as a hotspot for the current underground scene. Its acid, retro aesthetic is a perfect match for this banger, which is literally an orgasm for your ears, lol.
The Evolution of the Beat: This Isn’t Your Parents’ Disco
“I Get High” is a Hi-NRG Disco mix of driving synthesizers, sharp horns, futuristic sfx, and falsettos. This is a far cry from that classic ’70s style packed with violins and full orchestral instruments. Instead, it leans heavily into the genre’s early ’80s transition, where the rhythm got way more electronic and fast-paced.
That said, the rolling bassline and a relentless drum machine in the background completely hijack your body on the dancefloor, which no doubt has neon colors glowing everywhere. That same vibe is what you feel the second you close your eyes and stream this incredible tune!

The Concept and Release Dates of the Upcoming EP
It’s worth mentioning that “I Get High” is the lead single from an upcoming 7-track EP titled ‘DANSEUR,’ which draws inspiration from real-life stories within the LGBT community. Plus, dropping this announcement during Pride Month is absolutely perfect timing to fuel everyone’s celebrations.
Along with Lips & Burns, the project features Albrecht Van Doornik and Faris Badwan, who previously teamed up with frontman Andy Butler on the track “Controller.”
Part I of the record officially lands on July 14th, with Part II following in September via Stratasonic Records.
Personally, I’m crossing my fingers for even more Hi-NRG Disco gems on the tracklist because this first taste sounds so good, it leaves you craving more.
That being said, if you’re a die-hard fan of Lime, Sylvester, or the true pioneer of these electrifying beats, Patrick Cowley, make sure to keep a close eye on the social media links below. You won’t want to miss the upcoming release details and live show announcements from Hercules & Love Affair.
