In a rapidly evolving music industry shaped by artificial intelligence, few founders are moving as aggressively or as strategically as Josh Linsk. As the creator of Sound Stock, an AI-powered royalty-free sound platform, Linsk is positioning his company to challenge some of the biggest names in music licensing.

Electro Wow sat down with him to talk about Sound Stock’s origins, its technology, and where he believes the industry is heading next.

1. Josh, let’s start with the basics: what is Sound Stock, and what makes it different?

Sound Stock is a next-generation platform for AI-powered royalty-free sound. At its core, we’re offering unlimited downloads with no copyright claims, which is something creators have been frustrated with for years.

But beyond that, we’re building everything around AI music generation, sound effects, voice, all of it. The idea is that instead of relying on traditional catalogs or contributors, we can generate and deliver content instantly, at scale, and with zero licensing friction.

2. That “no copyright claims” angle is a big deal. Why focus on that?

Because it’s the biggest pain point in the industry. You can pay for a subscription on other platforms and still get hit with claims on YouTube or social media.

That breaks trust. We wanted to eliminate that entirely. With Sound Stock, creators know that what they download is safe to use. That’s a huge psychological shift, and honestly, it’s a competitive advantage.

3. You’ve mentioned that your catalog is already massive. How are you scaling it so quickly?

AI, plain and simple. We’re not waiting on artists or licensing deals. We’re generating content ourselves. Right now, we’re sitting on over 100,000 songs and millions of sound effects, and we’re pushing toward even larger numbers.

The key is automation batch generation, structured metadata, and smart categorization. Once that pipeline is dialed in, scaling becomes exponential.

4. You’ve been in music for decades. How has that influenced how you’re building this?

It’s everything. I understand how music is made, how it’s used, and where the bottlenecks are. I’ve seen the shift from physical to digital, from downloads to streaming, and now from human-made to AI-assisted content.

Sound Stock is really the next logical step. It’s not about replacing creativity; it’s about removing friction so creators can move faster.

5. There are already big players in this space: Epidemic Sound, Artlist, and Splice. How do you compete?

We’re not trying to be a slightly better version of them; we’re building something fundamentally different. They rely on traditional pipelines, artists, licensing, and royalties. We don’t.

Our cost structure is lower, our scalability is higher, and our speed is unmatched. That allows us to offer more content, faster, and cheaper. And once creators realize they can get what they need instantly without worrying about claims, it becomes an easy decision.

6. You’re also building tools into the platform, right? Not just a library?

Exactly. Sound Stock isn’t just a place to download sounds; it’s a creation environment. We’re adding AI tools that will empower our users. Eventually, users won’t just browse, they’ll create.

That’s a big shift. It turns the platform into something interactive, not just transactional.

7. What does the user experience look like?

We’re keeping it simple. You go to the site, pick a genre or mood, and get a track instantly. No endless scrolling.

Creators don’t want to spend an hour searching; they want something usable in seconds.

8. It is obvious you are building music ecosystems. It was recently discovered that you’ve acquired ArtistDirect.com. How does that fit in?

That’s a big piece of the puzzle. ArtistDirect gives us an opportunity to build a platform for long-form content for music fans, artist bios, music analysis, reviews of sounds, and resources for music producers.

We can connect that to Sound Stock and build something much bigger than just a sound library. It’s about providing multiple layers of the music ecosystem.

9. Where do you see Sound Stock in a year?

Massive. More content, more tools, more users. I think we’ll be seen as a serious alternative to the major players, if not the leader. The combination of AI generation, unlimited usage, and scale is hard to compete with.

10. Final question: What excites you most right now?

The speed. We can build, test, and launch ideas faster than ever before. AI has leveled the playing field. If you know what you’re doing, you can move incredibly fast, and that’s exactly what we’re doing with Sound Stock.

Interview Conclusion

As the music industry continues to evolve, it’s clear that founders like Josh Linsk aren’t just adapting to change; they’re driving it. And if Sound Stock continues on its current trajectory, it may very well redefine how creators find and use sound.
