Interview | Questions & Answers With DJ Phonon
This year has started strongly for DJ Phonon – but what else would you expect? He has released two EP’s through his own imprint Axiom Records. ‘Future’ was a resounding success, followed up by ‘I Want It All’. We wanted to learn a bit more about how he made his latest EP and get some background on his music production style.
1 – So, can you sum up the inspiration behind the EP’s name and what made you choose it?
I really enjoyed the collaboration in the track “I Want It All” and I feel it’s the strongest track on the EP. I also like the name!
2 – Can we expect more tracks in this style from you in the future?
I never really go out to write something similar to what I have done before, but I’m sure I’ll cross this path again.
3 – Obviously many different artists influence people, but do you have any specific influences you think are noticeable in this EP?
“Let It Burn” and “It’s a Paradise” came from creating “I Want It All” first, and the inspiration of the collaboration really helped for this. As for “I Want It All”, I was just listening to a lot of chillout Ibiza albums at the time.
4 – How long did it take to complete the tracks, and the whole EP, from start to finish?
I think it took around a month!
5 – Do you have anything else in the pipeline for us at the moment?
I have a few things on the go at the moment; I’m working with 4 or 5 singers trying to get a few summer EP’s ready and I have ‘Elements’ coming out, which will be released on the 6th of April.
6 – ‘Let it Burn’ is full of unique sounds and elements we have come to associate with the Phonon sound – do you think you can describe it for us?
“Let It Burn” seemed to come together really quite quickly! I had a lot of inspiration from New Years Eve. The sound, for me, would be described as a slow defined Journey.
7 – Finally, where can we find the EP?
The EP is in all major online Stores! Itunes, Spotify, Apple music etc. Also, you can find it on Soundcloud.
