Our brains automatically link being a little eccentric with being super creative in folks like musicians, artists, and writers.
The Link Between Eccentricity and Creativity
Believe it or not, new studies are showing that if an artist is a weirdo, even in areas totally separate from their art jam, it can enhance how we perceive their work. In our minds, eccentricity and creativity go together like, I don’t know, Yoko Ono and her strange noises on “Walking On Thin Ice.”
Just like sparking new ideas requires veering off typical thinking paths, quirkiness involves veering off typical social behaviors. If you ditch the rules in one place, you may ditch them elsewhere too.
Once we slap a label on the loopy artist stereotype, we tend to see those who fit the stereotype even more as being better at their craft. Crazy, right?!
