There’s a new Princess Superstar music video that’s too funny not to watch. And on top of that, the song itself is a surprising and unexpected collaboration with a dance music legend, none other than Laidback Luke!
That said, it goes without saying you’ll enjoy a mix of funny Rap rhymes and, of course, electronic beats to get you up out of your seat and moving your butt. This one’s called “U N ME,” a club banger for the freaks and also for world peace, lol.
A 25-Year Reunion, One Wild Music Video Later
Turns out this new Princess Superstar music video has some serious history behind it. Director Benzo Theodore is the same guy who directed her “Bad Babysitter” clip over 25 years ago, back when she was still a young rapper just starting in New York City.
That project, filmed in LA with production company Dirty Little Bear, ended up becoming kind of a cult classic.
Theodore cut his teeth on MTV’s “Jackass” before moving into commercial directing with viral campaigns for brands like Ray-Ban, Levi’s, and Verizon.
Their reunion happened by chance. The two reconnected on Instagram and caught a Pharcyde show together in Venice, California, sparking talk of another collab. Once he heard “U N ME,” Theodore was drawn to its feel-good energy and pitched a concept: a spontaneous dance number, a dramatic wardrobe reveal, and a run-in with an annoyed “Karen” who ends up joining the party instead of ruining it.
Choreographer Mia Orozco and stylist OnVa LeFaire helped bring it to life, along with the cast of performers. By the sound of it, the shoot was full of laughs from day one, and the timing feels especially fitting given everything going on in the world right now.
More Than Just a Funny Video
The “Perfect (Exceeder)” hitmaker shows no signs of stopping, and this release deserves way more plays and views if you ask me. Not just because the visuals are hilarious, but because of the flow she’s bringing on the verses.
It lifts your mood, boosts your self-esteem, and makes you laugh and dance; what more could you want?… I also love how creatively she uses a horn sample from Beyoncé’s “Crazy In Love,” which was originally sampled from The Chi-Lites’ “Are You My Woman? (Tell Me So).”
Not to mention, the intro sounds a lot like Blur’s iconic 90s jam “Girls & Boys.”
At the end of the day, that’s art, taking something that already exists, transforming it, and putting your own stamp on it.
The result speaks for itself; it’s so addictive I keep listening to it over and over.
