Paul van Dyk has had an illustrious career spanning over three decades, helping define the sounds of Trance music. As 2023 draws to a close, he is giving fans one last musical gift, the thunderous Techno banger, “Filthy Acid.”
A Departure From Trance Roots
Known primarily for classic Trance anthems like “For An Angel” and “Tell Me Why,” Paul van Dyk helped introduce the world to the hypnotic soundscapes and soaring melodies the genre is beloved for. However, “Filthy Acid” marks a bold departure as he ventures into darker textures.
Of course, you can expect pounding breakbeats, acidic basslines, and caustic synths to dominate this new song. And it’s quite a shift from his past productions!
Graffiti On The City Streets
Best of all, the acclaimed DJ and producer released a music video where an urban visual style is highlighted. The main protagonist is a girl who navigates the streets of a European city, creating a series of graffiti and using stickers to promote a major rave event.
By the end of this clip, as night falls, you’ll see all the fans at a huge concert, enjoying the energizing beats amid laser lights.
Closing Out 2023 With a Bang
With “Filthy Acid,” it seems Paul van Dyk is saying farewell to 2023 in a truly bombastic way. Certainly, it’s an aggressive club weapon guaranteed to leave its mark.
Only time will tell if this Techno turn sticks. But for open-minded listeners, this cut delivers the raw energy expected from a legend pushing boundaries after so many prolific years. Not to mention, he has witnessed the evolution of Dance music immensely while remaining a trailblazer.
In 2023, Paul van Dyk performed sets at numerous festivals worldwide. He also dropped tons of collaborations with other artists and no doubt more fresh music is still in the works… Stay tuned below.
