After a long-standing period of playing music privately, ruined promises is here to demonstrate that all that heartbreak and chaos can actually sparkle, especially when it has a serious hook and DnB elements, as heard in their latest single, “I Miss You,” from their upcoming Halloween album.
Get ready to dive into the full interview below.
1. After 20 years of playing music privately, what finally pushed you to share your sound with the world right now?
Close friends and family finally convinced me that it was good. It’s very scary to create something and put it out into the world.
2. In your bio, you mentioned turning “heartbreak and healing” into songs. Is music-making cathartic for you, or does it sometimes reopen old wounds?
For the most part, it is very cathartic for me, and one of the best parts is when fans reach out and let me know when they hear a song, and it’s a situation they’ve been in or something they are going through right now, and then feel a little less alone.

3. Walk us through your core setup, which drum machines and synths are essential to the ruined promises sound?
I absolutely love my Roland TR8S for drums, Novation Bass Station II for the bottom end, and Arturia Polybrute for pads and almost everything else.
4. Which Nine Inch Nails track has the perfect production that you still study or try to chase in your own work? And is there a Mem0ryEat3r song where the production just blows your mind every time you hear it?
For me, it’s “Mr. Self Destruct” from ‘The Downward Spiral’ album. There is so much going on in that track, and to me, it’s the most quintessential Nine Inch Nails-sounding song. Mem0ryEat3r is easily “Stages://ERROR.” Everything is so crisp and so many layers. Every time I listen to it, I am blown away by it.
5. What inspired the upbeat yet aggressive sound of your newest single, “I Miss You”?
The contradiction of missing someone who hurt you. It’s bittersweet, it’s messy, and I wanted the sound to reflect that. It’s upbeat in the way nostalgia can hit you, but underneath, grief and longing aren’t clean. So you can feel the tension in the track, that duality is what missing someone feels like.
6. Who’s the female vocalist on the track, and what story does this song tell?
That is Kelsey; she did an amazing job, and she is on quite a few of the tracks on the album. The story is about missing someone who hurt you.

7. Are there moments in your tunes where you pull back from the chaos, or is the relentless energy part of your signature?
The energy is definitely my vibe, but I do still pull back a lot. It’s getting easier to let go each time, tho.
8. A Halloween album release feels intentional. Does the album have darker themes, or is October 31st just your favorite day to drop music?
It was very much intentional some of the tracks are more dark or edgy than what people have heard so far, but overall, I think I balanced the dark with the light well.
9. How many tracks are we getting, and does “I Miss You” represent the album’s overall vibe, or are you taking us somewhere completely different?
15 tracks, and between “I Miss You” and “You Don’t Want Me,” you get a good idea of what to expect from the album.
10. If someone only ever hears one ruined promises song, what do you hope they feel or understand about who you are?
That even in heartbreak and chaos, there’s beauty and strength. ruined promises is proof that even broken glass can sparkle when the light hits it right.
