New York-born powerhouse Sophie B. Hawkins is set to reignite hearts around the world as she marks the 30th anniversary of her trailblazing album ‘WHALER’ with a brand-new project, ‘WHALER – RE-EMERGING,’ which is out now.
At a thrilling moment for the beloved artist, the milestone follows her summer appearances, where she brought her singular blend of raw emotion and musical brilliance to the legendary Saskatoon Jazz Festival and an intimate performance at Seattle’s Triple Door.
Hawkins is now touring across Canada this month.
Since first shaking up the airwaves with her platinum debut ‘TONGUES AND TAILS’ and the provocative smash “Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover,” Hawkins has remained a fearless creative force. She made history on the Billboard AC charts with her timeless hit “As I Lay Me Down,” and over three decades and seven albums—including her latest, ‘FREE MYSELF’ (2023), with the UK Dance hit “Love Yourself”—has continued to evolve while staying undeniably herself.
Now, with ‘WHALER – RE-EMERGING,’ she invites fans old and new to rediscover the songs that helped define a generation.
“The songs on this album are some of the sweetest and ripest I’ve yet written. They fill me with hope and joy.
WHALER was, and is again, a time of ‘True Romance’ in my life. We rehearsed these songs live in front of you on tour, just Seth and me. Soon after, we recorded the album in two days with Andrew Oedel at Ghost Hit Recording in Massachusetts. My voice is as raw as raw can be, no tuning or corrections, and I think the raw and unfiltered me is the best me.
Please enjoy this wonderful and alive art. It’s a privilege to share it with you. I’m grateful you care about it. — Sophie B. Hawkins”
‘WHALER – RE-EMERGING’ breathes new life into classics like the soaring “Right Beside You” and the tender “As I Lay Me Down,” delivering them in their most authentic, soul-stirring form. Fans will experience these songs—and Hawkins’ unvarnished, powerful vocals up close as she takes the stage at Saskatoon Jazz Festival, adding her name to a lineup that has hosted music’s greatest legends.

Beyond her chart-topping anthems, Hawkins’ influence stretches across film, television, and theater. She captivated audiences on shows like COMMUNITY, moved them with her acclaimed documentary THE CREAM WILL RISE, and earned rave reviews for her portrayal of Janis Joplin in the touring production of ROOM 105.
