The 2024 Olympics opening ceremony in France is unquestionably the best ever! I can’t stop laughing at the comments from those bigoted religious and far-right political extremists seething with anger over a show that celebrates art, music, and most importantly, diversity.
That viral video everyone’s talking about lately can be seen directly below.
Those haters criticizing without any valid points or basis totally forget that Paris is the fashion capital, and it’s precisely this runway show that’s ruffling the feathers of those boring Conservatives.
Personally, I love seeing how they pulled off a choreography full of fun, freedom, and joy. And don’t even get me started on those catchy tunes they picked out.

Memorable Tracks and Vibrant Performances
Nine years ago, I had the honor of interviewing GALA, whose 90s classic “Freed From Desire” kicks off the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony.
Moreover, I love that after this banger, they included in a mashup the unforgettable melody of “Meet Her At The Love Parade” by the German producer Da Hool, which then blends with the brilliant House music hit, “Ride On Time” by Black Box.
Certainly, this show had many other memorable tracks with creative dancers and models who not only nailed their best movements but also rocked some pretty colorful outfits.

Who is the blue man in the Olympics?
My favorite part was the performance by the blue man who is actually a very popular singer and actor in France, his name is Phillippe Katerine.
The reason why his whole body was painted blue and he sported a Greek-style outfit is because he was embodying Dionysus, the God symbolizing wine, fun, and theater. And these three things are indeed a source of pride in France.
On the other hand, it is important to clarify that the organizers of these Olympics have already confirmed that this act was never intended as a parody of Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper mural.
On the contrary, what it actually represents is the feast of the Greek Gods, something quite interesting and entertaining in my opinion.
Defending Artistic Freedom
The real controversy here lies in the homophobic and transphobic insults from fundamentalist Christians. Their hypocrisy is once again crystal clear, and their attacks on drag queens at every public event seem to have become an unhealthy habit for them.
In any case, I’ll always stand up for freedom of expression and even blasphemy in art. Personally, I think it’s necessary because neither I nor anyone else should be forced to follow an outdated religion that has caused a lot of violence and even scientific setbacks for centuries…
Sadly, nobody talks about the fact DJ Barbara Butch made a heart gesture with her hands. That was the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in this opening spectacle, a message of LOVE that the repressed believers don’t practice and tend to forget.
