Setting out to make a great remix, ANYKINE from Maui, Hawaii, turned to electronic music for inspiration. That’s why you’ve got to check out this new version of their single “Inertia,” which swaps the jazzy saxophone tones and breezy reggae flavor for something much more upbeat and ready to get you dancing!
One thing this band stands out for is its almost paradise-like sound, which transports you straight to a melodic oasis. On top of that, these young talents don’t tie themselves to any one musical style.
Indeed, they’re always experimenting with each release, so it’s no surprise that this remix feels so fresh, especially for EDM fans.
What “ANYKINE” Really Means
The name isn’t random. In Hawaiian Pidgin, “any kine” means any kind, as in anything goes, and that’s the whole idea behind this project. Reggae is where they started, but boxing themselves in was never the plan.
One song might lean roots, the next gets poppy, then suddenly it’s electronic or turns way heavier, all depending on the mood of the moment. For them, jumping between genres isn’t an identity crisis; it’s the entire point!

What the “Inertia” Lyrics Are Really About
The lyrics of “Inertia” were written by Daniel Lopez and Hoaka Phillips of ANYKINE. Even though this is a remix, the original verses and vocals stay untouched.
This dope tune is all about being pulled toward someone and not being able to fight it. The moon, gravity, and the tide are the images used to describe that push and pull, and the title plays right into it, like two people stuck in each other’s motion.
My favorite line is how the ocean becomes the other person, like they’re the swell and the tide all in one. Then the track shifts into living-in-the-moment mode, where overthinking is out.
All that matters is staying close and making the feeling last all night. In other words, this remix has a lot of heart and still connects, even with a completely new rhythm.
