For listeners seeking a darker, more danceable strain of Electro-Pop, Massachusetts-based duo Boy Harsher deserves a place on your radar. Their new single and accompanying music video, “Faulty,” arrived just a few weeks ago, and it’s tailor-made for your ears!
Vocalist Jae Matthews and producer Augustus Muller directed the clip themselves, shot at Prop Haus in Brooklyn. Give it a watch below.
Onscreen, the whole music video happens in a wood-paneled room with a glowing TV, where a changing cast in wild outfits dance and lean on each other. By the end, everyone’s gone, and the TV is still on.
Punchy Beats, Shaky Synths
The catchy jam kicks off with punchy beats, busy hi-hats and shaky synths that add up to a dark Electro−Pop groove. Besides that, it has a dancefloor-ready pull, but with a softer touch thanks to little electronic notes that tumble through the mix.
Likewise, it has textures that create a hypnotic atmosphere. Add to that the singer’s breathy, enigmatic voice, which makes the track more interesting with every passing second.
A Spiral of Self-Doubt That Won’t Let Go
In my opinion, “Faulty” is all about self-doubt. The narrator keeps asking if the other person sees them as flawed. They also wonder whether they’d both be better off alone.
Along the way, the feelings get messy, from wanting to hide to needing to still be wanted. Nevertheless, the song never gives an answer, and the repetition makes it feel like a thought stuck on loop.

The context adds extra weight. “Faulty” comes from ‘GET MEAN,’ the latest Boy Harsher album on Atlantic Records. Not to mention, it’s their first full record since ‘The Runner’ in 2022.
In case you didn’t know, Jae and Augustus ended their romantic relationship in early 2024. That came after family loss and a lot of personal upheaval. Even so, they kept making music together.
So hearing a song about doubt and being alone with that backstory makes it feel deeper, even if the lyrics don’t point to anyone.
All in all, “Faulty” is one of those tunes that hooks you from start to finish, perfect for anyone craving dark Synthpop/Electro-Pop. Plus, their album has more gems, so check out their social media below for fresh updates.
