DJ_Dave is a multi-talented artist who crafts bangers in a super creative, unconventional way using computer code. Without relying on any real instruments, she just dropped “Next to U” on Mad Decent, delivering 135 BPM packed with vibrant electronic melodies.
The music video below plays out like a futuristic rave, blending digital elements seamlessly with everyday clubbing. That same algorithmic sparkle found in her beats radiates through every scene in this clip, making it a definitive must-see.
Coding Beats Instead of Playing Instruments
DJ_Dave comes from her last name Davis, but her real name is Sarah. After studying in New York (where she got involved with the Livecode.NYC community), she moved to Los Angeles, where she keeps breaking boundaries in the electronic music industry.
It is worth noting that instead of using traditional DJ gear, she writes code live on stage using open-source tools like Strudel. Not to mention, she even projects everything onto big screens so the crowd can watch her build the beats in real time.
And doing this isn’t easy at all, in my opinion, since it’s even more complex than playing instruments. That said, her skills for solving logic or math problems must be a piece of cake for her!
A Rising Force Redefining Electronic Music
Her productions move effortlessly between styles like Dance-Pop, Trance, and Techno, and over time she’s earned support from major artists like Grimes and Frank Ocean.
DJ_Dave is more than ready to release her debut album in about two weeks. This first body of work will be titled ‘Hardcore Software’ and will feature a total of 15 tracks.
She also plans to tour with artists like horsegiirL, another enigmatic producer who has been on the rise in recent years. But beyond that, she actively uses her social media platforms to champion female representation in STEM and in electronic music.
Needless to say, she’s making history, and this is only the beginning.
