Dead Cool, a duo consisting of a married couple based in North Carolina, isn’t just defined by their gothic aesthetics. In fact, their brilliant single “Stranger Kind” combines dark synths with a message that speaks directly to those who live a double life.
More specifically, the lyrics to “Stranger Kind” are all about feeling like you don’t belong and people not getting you. They sing about the struggle of pretending you’re fine when you’re really hurting yourself.
Obviously, my favorite line is “Don’t let the sun blind your eyes, You are just one of the stranger kind”… which serves as a reminder to be proud of who you are, no matter what others think.
Surprisingly, this inspiring declaration is reflected at the end of the music video, where unity is strength. Resulting in a visual catharsis for a lot of people who feel the same way.
In other words, this is all summed up in one simple sentence: Embrace your differences instead of hiding them.
