Cookie Delicious is the hook-laden, experimental Indie Dance Rock solo project of Joel Klaverkamp, a name well-known in Winnipeg’s music and modern dance scenes since 1989. Joel’s musical journey spans his involvement in Robojom, The Hummers, Drums and Wires, Skingerbreadman, Beefdonut, Merin, À La Mode, and many others, as a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and DJ with a never-ending stream of creative projects.
Today Cookie Delicious released ‘Punch Dance In A Wooded Glen,’ the third full-length album, on all streaming platforms. This album follows ‘Collaborations’ (March 2024), a well-received collection of collaborations with other Winnipeg singers and songwriters including Greg MacPherson, Domo Lemoine, Courtney Fox, and more.
‘Punch Dance In A Wooded Glen’ delivers seven tracks across 26 minutes of danceable, intense Indie Rock, blending deep grooves and experimental sounds.
Joel approached the album with a desire to capture the raw energy of creative flow, writing and recording each song simultaneously over just a few months. The result? An “Apollonian take on Nu-Indie-Sleaze” that evokes comparisons to LCD Soundsystem, Talking Heads, and Viagra Boys.

Track highlights
Mother’s Day Parade: Driven by deep, syncopated basslines and woodblock rhythms, this anthem reminds us to take charge of our own self-care. A feel-good track perfect for late-night playlists.
Fucks Slaps: As explicit as its title, this track imagines what Dr. Seuss might have written if he were a millennial.
Make It Burnier: Offering a take from the perspective of a fire pit at a music festival, this song explores connection and utility, even in the absence of love.
On The Outside: Featuring a standout guitar performance from longtime collaborator Ava Wray, this track adds a fresh dimension to the album’s soundscape.
Coldsweat: A reimagining of The Sugarcubes’ track from Life’s Too Good (1988), a formative album for Joel. Alexis Flower, who also created the album artwork, lends her talents on the track’s eerie solo.
Forest Nymph: A psychedelic journey that feels like a sonic trip, this track swirls with intoxicating energy.
Never a Moment: The closing track delivers an intimate reflection on the importance of relationships, providing a fitting, introspective end to the album.
