To talk about Todd Terry is to talk about the history of House music. Decades after helping shape the genre’s sound, the master returns with his Freeze Mix of “Whiskey Blues” by Shyfrin Alliance, confirming that his touch remains intact.
What’s most interesting here is that Shyfrin Alliance is a project coming from a completely different world, with touches of Rock, Jazz, and Blues.
That being said, it’s a bold, admirable move that they dare to take a step further than usual. And the result of this remix speaks for itself. Hit play and see for yourself.
A 180-Degree Turn, Same Unmistakable Voice
This fresh Todd Terry remix reinterprets the original track’s Rock-and-Blues-driven atmosphere, giving it a full 180-degree turn. That’s evident in how the guitars and the drums get swapped out for dancefloor grooves you can’t stop moving to.
On the other hand, Eduard Shyfrin’s (founder and leader of Shyfrin Alliance) iconic, gravelly voice remains present throughout this new take. And believe it or not, it works perfectly well with electronic rhythms!
For some reason, it reminds me of Depeche Mode, but built for the clubs and even festivals. Simply put, I love it!

A Soul State, Now Set to a Beat
On a conceptual level, “Whiskey Blues” is a song described as a state of the soul. Shyfrin Alliance is a project unique in its essence, as it’s inspired by the mystical school of Kabbalah, which gives its musical catalog a lot of authenticity.
But beyond the philosophical and esoteric vision, this project seeks new audiences with such an awesome remix. Moreover, it aims to amplify its message with beats that will get you dancing.
I hope they keep doing it in the future, because it’s an effective formula. And if that’s not the definition of creativity, I don’t know what is.
