Interview | Questions & Answers With Nathassia
Nathassia
is a Dutch singer and songwriter, now based in London with a fresh vision about electronic music. Her most recent album ‘Light Of The World’ is a must-listen material. In particular, the self-titled single grabbed my whole attention. Lyrics explore the future of multiculturalism as love merges with technology. That is to say, you’ll enjoy original and fun music. Well, the exclusive interview below expands details about this creative artist’s project. Happy reading!

1 – When and why did you decide to move to London?

I first came to London as a student to gain work experience in the music business as part of my studies International Music Management in The Netherlands. After I completed my studies, I moved to London to set up my own recording studio to produce my album with UK producers I got to know well and funny enough the company I did the work experience with is now my management!

2 – Do you have a formal musical training?

Yes, I started with a 1-year vocal course at the music conservatory, then I studied the business aspects of the industry as I had a feeling my chances of succeeding a career as an artist would be higher if I knew more about that.

3 – What makes your debut album ‘Light of the World’ so great?

The songs are about great things from our ancient past and great things that could in the future, like communicating with each other in our heads! (no more texting!)

4 – What roles did you comply during the creative process of this album?

I wrote the songs, co-produced the music and I produced all my vocals.

5 – We know Grammy-award winning songwriter and producer Bruce Elliott-Smith was part of this project. What did you learn from him?

Well, because I’m Dutch some of my lyrics can get a bit lost in translation during the writing process! Bruce helped me with that.

6 – I love the music video for your self-titled single “Light of the World”. Where was it filmed? How much fun was this experience?

Thank you! It was partly filmed at my London studio with my band and the other part was filmed celebrating multiculturalism at the Notting Hill Carnival. I danced so much my feet went on strike by the end of the weekend!

7 – What do you think is the best line from this single?

“Love merges with technology…” it’s about what could be the biggest change in our history when our human consciousness merges with A.I. and robotics.

8 – Do you already know which song from your debut album will serve as the second single?

Yes, I am actually working on a very special version of my song “Egypt’s Queen”, which is about the famous bust of Queen Nefertiti, to be released on vinyl only.

9 – If you could only listen to three artists for the rest of your life, who would they be and why?

Vintage & Morelli and 16 Bit Lolitas because I love their production, David Bowie because his music is timeless.

10 – Finally, Do you feel that women still tend to be underestimated in the EDM Scene?

No… for what used to be a man’s world I feel that it’s actually getting more and more equal now.
